This book (or series, depending on how much I like the first) has been on my mental "to be read" list for quite awhile, because I feature it on the "Fantasy Fiction for Adults" page of my site, and I'm slowly working my way through everything I feature that I haven't read yet. However, it was your mention here some time ago - or possibly in an entry in your journal - that moved it to the upper reaches of my list. I haven't gotten to the "can't put it down" stage yet, but it is definitely much easier reading now. The Prologue was fine, but the first paragraph of the first chapter really did my head in. Glad to be finally past it (I told myself "Just ignore it and keep reading" lol) and am looking forward to getting deeper into the story. I thought I'd read somewhere - possibly in an article when he died recently - that Robert Jordan had made arrangements for the final book to be written by ... uh, someone. (Can I be making that up? I don't think so, but it's possible that was just a thought I had: "He should have arranged to have someone write it. Certainly he knew how it would end.") I'll hope that wasn't just a thought, and also hope that George R.R. Martin gets to writing more prolifically on his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, so he doesn't end up in the same situation. And I'll just grrrr here with you about your not being able to find used copies of The Farseer Trilogy or copies in your library. (At least that series is finished! Three trilogies make up the entire series - all published and in paperback, even; all you have to do is find them lol. Have you considered an inter-library loan?

O! look at me rambling when there's still time in the day to code a few more pages.

I wholeheartedly recommend the first book to anyone who even has an inkling towards the fantasy genre. The rest are great, but aren't as spell-binding I found. They can get VERY VERY VERY detail oriented and a bit convoluted. They are still very well written, but none of them compare to the brilliance of Eye of the World. (I actually admit that I primarily am reading the rest of the series because of this one stunning subplot between two characters.) I think once they start running from things in the first book (I forget how long it takes to get to that point) you can't put it down.

I hadn't heard he was going to get someone to finish it, but it's very probable, and I've only heard snippets here and there about it so I'm not really sure what's going on. I mean, he and his publisher know how popular the series is, knew he had a fatal illness and he wouldn't be around much longer, so I also was thinking along the lines that "certainly he knew how it would end."

I AM SOOOO frustrated about not being able to find any copies. I really want to get more into the fantasy genre (I'm reading too much suspense/mystery right now, I'm not sure why, I don't even really LIKE suspense....I just have a bad habit if someone throws a book at me, I read it regardless of what it is). I couldn't find the trilogy though even in interlibrary loan - but I am still keeping my eyes out. There are some other used book stores a bit further away, so I'm hoping I'll one day get some free time to take a little trip. My birthday is 4 days after christmas though, so maybe I can ask for a gift card to Barnes and Noble and just buy the rest of the Farseer trilogy. (I can't ask for it for Christmas because my Christmas present was my ticket home. Which I am SOOOO okay with.... best present ever, lol)

Please ramble on - I'm so excited I can finally have someone to talk to Eye of the World about, lol. And if you continue the series, we MUST discuss Lan/Nanieve. But now I need to stop rambling and let you get back to work.

Well, even after reading for about 45 minutes last night, I'm still not far into it, but I do at least know who Lan/Nanieve are, so I'm intrigued. I also had this thought while reading last night: "Nooooo! Don't take those coins from the pretty lady, you silly boys!" But then I have a feeling the plot wouldn't progress if that hadn't happened. I wish I could send you my copies of the second and third books in The Farseer trilogy; I know you don't live far and I know you'd take care of them. Actually, you know what? I have to go to the post office this week. If you'll send your address to skellorg at gmail I'll do that (unless you really want to wait to get your own copies.) I thought I had your address, but the one I have for you is in Colorado.

Ooo you are bringing back memories. I want to read it again now. I think there's a festival in the beginning, or something of the sort.... once that kinda goes to hell in a handbasket, things will pick up. You know what - that would be fantastic if you could - I just sent a few books to my friend the other day and it wasn't too much $ - certainly less than buying a physical book. I take excellent care of books, so have no fear ;) And I'll probably be done with them relatively soon and have them back to you in no time in case the mood to re-read them strikes you soon. I will get my e-mail addy to you.
