I think My Sister's Keeper might be my favourite Picoult book. Maybe. It was either that one or Salem Falls that I read first. Now I want to find them and read them again! And also Lovely Bones. I have no earthly idea where it might be. Woe.

I read the backs of about six different Picoult books standing there in Barnes & Noble and many of them sounded like something I could easily get into. My Sister's Keeper was the only one I'd ever heard of though (I religiously read the Bestsellers list in my Sunday paper), so that's the one I ended up adding to my stack. I started it last night and have already dog-eared several pages - I'm terrible about that - containing sentences or phrases that struck a chord, i.e.,

"I sometimes wonder if it is just me, or if there are other women who figure out where they are supposed to be by going nowhere."

" ... seeing her sitting unresponsive makes me realize that silence has a sound."

Yay! I'm so glad you're reading The Lovely Bones and enjoying it. It makes me want to go find it again and read it.

Hmmm... I've also thought of Gregory MacGuire (sp?) books such as Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (which I have yet to read).

Also, Wally Lamb wrote a wonderful book back in the 90's called She's Come Undone which has stayed with me (in my heart/head) for years.

Yay for reading! I might have to go pay my library fine today...

since the other rec I gave you is out of print I thought I'd recommend another one that is not.... it's The Mermaids Singing by Lisa Carey (sorry, too tired to code). Made me fall in love with Ireland before I even went there.

damn; i wish i'd seen this before i placed an amazon order this morning - had to do a quick father's day gift order, and a specific edition of beowulf for my daughter's summer reading, and then discovered that the books i intended on ordering for myself are all out of print and can only be purchased through third parties (which i didn't want to do, because i was qualified for free shipping without them.) anyway, it may please you to know (considering your username lol) that i did order jane eyre for myself though ... something i've never read, which has been on my mental "tbr" list for quite some time.
