Okay - it's like this. There's a tribe living by a river, and in the river there are crocodiles. The tribe has one particular piece of wisdom passed down through the generations. If you're going to take that attitude, you really shouldn't discount alcohol.

Rough breakdown of drug-related deaths:
-Nicotine: 60%
-Alcohol: 30%
-ALL other drugs: 10%

And there are ways of knowing what you're getting, if we're nitpicking. Like people who grow their own pot, or only get it from people who do.

I don't want to argue about this, in terms of the specifics, because I think it's something that has to be a matter of personal opinion and choice. Which is part of the reason I think currently illegal drugs should, like alcohol, nicotine, caffeine etc, be legalised and regulated by the government, as that would allow people certainty as to quality and allow health agencies to protect people.

Like I said, I don't entirely discount alcohol, because it can and often does have pretty terrible effects. But, probably because it's so socially accepted, it's easier for me to see its good points, and to understand about moderation ( ... )

Hrrrm. The reason I pointed at it is that everything you said about other drugs does apply to alcohol, insofar as illicit drugs re, by definition, unregulated. The guarantees about what goes into the product you are consuming are present for alcohol, because it is regulated, but not into other drugs ( ... )
