Okay - it's like this. There's a tribe living by a river, and in the river there are crocodiles. The tribe has one particular piece of wisdom passed down through the generations. It goes like this: if you happen to meet a crocodile, don't stick your head in its mouth. Every now and then - and who knows the reason - people ignore this advice. Which

I wrote this after meeting a bloke yesterday who mentioned very coolly about being on something on the weekend, and he really bothered me, so perhaps it comes across as a bit more aggresive than necesary. I do understand that people are all coming from different circumstances, and have their own reasoning, and many people do know what works in their own life, and when it comes to actual individuals, I'll pretty much always judge them on their own merits. But I didn't like this guy's attitude, and I have heard similar a bit lately, and, so, rant.
I don't like drugs, and I don't like people talking about them like they're something good and cool. I'm not used to casual attitudes towards them, and don't understand why anyone would bother with them. That's what motivated the rant, and it is, as you say, very much a personal response.
I think currently illegal drugs should, like alcohol, nicotine, caffeine etc, be legalised and regulated by the government, as that would allow people certainty as to quality and allow health agencies to protect people.
Given that people are always going to be taking things, in theory, this is quite a decent idea. Especially given the sucess of injection rooms.

However, alcohol can have the same unexpected effects of any other drug, particularly the first time one consumes it. You can take pot, acid, E, even cocaine and heroin (which I'm much less comfortable with as 'acceptable' or 'casual' drugs) in moderation my limiting the amount you consume. I didn't mention speed or ice, because ice in particular fucks you up but good no matter how much or little of it you take (it burns out your nervous system) so I dunno what the solution is there.
I used to have pretty much exactly the same attitude to you and I'm still not really sure where my feelings are, with any degree of precision. I feel like the recreational ones (pot/acid/E) are pretty well on the same level as alcohol - though pot has similar lung cancer issues to tobacco - but I'm still not really sure about theothers because they have a much higher chance of doing damage on the first go.
