Damn

As I was backing into a parking place Saturday night, I hear and feel a loud clunk coming from the undercarriage of the car. Rather unsettling. Then it happened again as I was coming to a stop at a red light on my way home. Sunday was going to be my only day to sleep in until next Sunday due to the extra hours and shifts I've been working, but I ( Read more... )

When I read the first sentence I thought tranny problems - thankfully it wasn't that. And at least you caught it before it got worse!

Cars are such a fucking joy sometimes.

I have no problem with trannies: I'm open-minded! Hahahaha ugh, terrible joke.

For real though, I was afraid of that, too. Or that it could be the whole drive train. Sadly, my one friend around here who's very competent with cars and has all of the necessary specialty tools didn't get back to me until it was too late or else I could have saved a couple hundred dollars. Oh well. At least if anything happens in the future, it's under lifetime warranty with Firestone and Firestone is everywhere, so I'm pretty much covered even if it happens across the country.

lol it is a terrible joke, but I still laughed anyway.

Yeah, I love when that happens. Like when my car decides to give trouble when my mechanic father is 300 miles away and I have to either play a guessing game with it myself or take it to a shop and risk getting ripped off.

I feel your pain man; I too have had money coming out the wazoo from unexpected directions for a few months now... It sucks, but I guess I should be thankful that I had it spare, to begin with! I hope things improve for ya, and you can get back in the old routine, soon. :-)

There is a light at the end of the tunnel and things do seem to be slowing down slowly at least. I sat down to start catching up on EHT's two or three times last week, but got interrupted before I could get going. One of these days, you're going to bombarded with comments. : )

I look forward to it! It doesn't matter how old the entries are. I should especially direct your attention towards the ones that have so far received no comment at all (there are a few) but again, no rush, and glad you're OK! :-)

No worries. I intend to go back until I start recognizing ones I've already seen and commented on.

God that sucks. My car is getting to the "I'm really old so start expecting problems you've never had" stage. And sadly, I couldn't afford something like that right out of hand. Sorry that it drained your savings though. :(

Ugh. I know that feeling, too. I really need to get my debt cleared away and start saving for a new car because mine's 11 years old (only 88,000 miles though) and I couldn't afford payments right now. Best of luck with yours. : /

All that matters is that you're moving in the right direction. And hey, being able to pay for unplanned expenses out of cash is a big deal, especially when it means you don't add to your debt load. Good job!

Thanks. I'm not out of the woods yet though. I use my parking break fairly regularly -- like once a day maybe? -- and when I got my car back, there was suddenly no resistance when I pulled the lever up. I thought that was weird, but maybe it had something to do with the tie rods needing to be replaced 'cause I know next to nothing about this stuff. But then, I found out the parking brake no longer keeps my car from rolling when in neutral. I called the shop after work today and told them I think it somehow got tweaked during the maintenance and the employee denied the possibility, stating the tie rods are in front and parking brakes are in back. That may be, but it doesn't answer how it was fine before and completely loose when I got it back. I believe in coincidences, but I have a feeling I'm being screwed here. I'm taking it back in tomorrow to have them look at it at least, but I don't know if it'll matter since it's not something I can very well prove even if they did do it and I'll be damned if I'm paying them for a parking brake ( ... )
