It just -- once I heard the idea, I thought 'I must write that! ...because poor clueless Vaan would totally be tactless enough to ask!'

But mostly for the last line, which was one of the first things to come to me. Mmm, het!Ashe/Fran.

I've heard any number of more-plausible suggestions -- they're born asexually, they are not born but created by the forest, they're born through some mystic/magic practice -- but 'oh, we have males. *blink* what do you mean, you didn't notice?' just... yes. XD

I've been mentally grouping viera with Pokemon -- the offspring is always the mother's species, no matter what the father is. Mostly because of that FFT:A fic I read with a viera flirting with a nu mou, he was so flustered, it was adorable!

The viera are awesome, but also sort of hilarious if you think about them too hard. I love a game that can take half-naked all-girl bunny people and play them totally straight, as a serious race.
