I love your post!! OMG DRUNKEN MASTER LEE IS AWESOME!! And yes the fight was epic, and YES TEMARI!

I am so glad you are getting into this series! So, when are you gonna write fic for it? XDDDDDDDD

Edit: Sasuke...oh Sasuke...I loved the Sasuke-in-a-barrel arc, and yeah you are spot on about him. And Orochimau. And Kabuto.

Love Shikamaru and Kiba and Neji too.

Naruto is so much fun! ♥

This was one of my favorite arcs yet, because it was both genuinely dramatic and hilariously over-the-top. Drunk!Lee is one of my favorite things ever, especially the part where he-while staggering around!-insisted that he couldn't possibly be drunk because he was under the legal drinking age. I ♥ him so much.

I am actually right now working on two things: "Casefiles: Hinata" (the first of the Psychiatrist in Konoha series) and "Frogsong and Farewell" (a Jiraiya and Tsunade gen piece).

The whole thing was doubly hilarious in many ways when we originally watched it on Cartoon Network, because they were still showing it in prime time and therefore dubbed 'booze' as-- wait for it-- elixir. And called him a "Loopy Master" instead of "Drunken Master."

Sakura: Sasuke! I want to lick you all over!
Sasuke: EW. No. Go away.
Orochimaru: Sasuke! I want to lick you all over!
Sasuke: Okay!

I have to say, that bit made me really wonder if Sasuke had a history of abuse. (I mean, other than having his entire family slaughtered by his brother who then mentally whammied him.)

Sasuke has Stockholm Syndrome.

Okay, I like this diagnosis better. And also narcissistic personality disorder.

I had thought the entire series could not surpass Rock Lee's drunken boxing, and then the Sand Siblings unexpectedly showed up to be Big Damn Heroes and it was even better.

although, hilariously, they don't actually manage to kill Kimimaro. He just kind of drops dead.

Curiously, I just now finished an old children's fantasy in which they climactically confront the Dark Lord and he... commits suicide. Okay!

I actually wondered about whether Sasuke had been abused too (I mean, beyond the obvious), but I am theorizing Stockholm Syndrome + narcissistic personality disorder + whatever you'd call the fantasy trauma caused by having a malicious older brother drastically reorganize your psyche from the inside, and the main reason for that is... the very shallow one that "brother killed everyone; I WANT REVENGE" is a much less sticky topic to deal with. But yeah, it does seem entirely plausible.

I had thought the entire series could not surpass Rock Lee's drunken boxing, and then the Sand Siblings unexpectedly showed up to be Big Damn Heroes and it was even better.

Yes! Lee was staggering around announcing that he was NOT drunk, and he was taking a nap and HA HA FOOLED YOU, and totally derailing Kimimaro's Epic-and the boy and I were going, "This is literally the best thing ever!" and then the Sand Sibs arrived and it went from awesome to crazy awesome.

I read a metric ton of Gaara/Lee fics after this arc because just Lee and Gaara in a room together is pretty much guaranteed comedy gold.

This may be the slashiest fight I have yet seen.

It really is.

I also loved Kakashi thinking he had showed up late again... too late to save Naruto's life!

The only thing that rivals it for slashiness is Gaara's coming out conversation discussion on the cliffside with Kankuro about how Naruto taught him how to love. Which I also love with a hilarious awesome glee.

Indeed!

There is surprisingly little Naruto/Gaara slash, apparently because all the slashers are busy with Naruto/Sasuke. Though I did once see a Naruto/Tenten comm, proving that if two characters exist, they will have at least some people pairing them up.

I actually feel the Naruto/Gaara way more than the Naruto/Sasuke, but that may be because I believe that Sasuke is more in love with himself/his beautiful pain than he is with any actual human beings, whereas Gaara clearly wants to connect with other people, he's just bad at it. (On the het side, ditto Hinata.)

Tenten... has so little character development that I think that anyone writing fic about her have to be inventing three-quarters of her personality whole cloth. (Not that there's a problem with that...)

It's been a million, jillion years since I've watched Naruto, damnit, but you're making me nostalgic. I fell off a few years ago, but I guess I could always climb back on!
