You know, this and the ninja exams were really my favorite story arcs of this series so far. The secondary characters are so much more interesting and awesome, and I could do with a lot more Shikamaru, Rock Lee and Hinata.

And yeah, the more you find out about the choices made by the folks in charge, the increasing amount of "REALLY? THIS IS NINJA WISDOM HERE?" you find yourself spouting.

I love the secondary characters, and I agree that Shikamaru, Rock Lee and Hinata are awesome. (I feel a particular kinship with Hinata, because her extreme anxiety is not that different from mine.)

I feel that a lot can be explained by the fact that they promote people based on their ability to be deceptive and effective killers rather than their ability to be effective leaders.

This... makes me want to pick up Naruto again. I gave up on it during the slush before shippuden happened.

I think it helps a lot that, after Sasuke Retrieval, I skipped straight over all the filler and went on to Shippuden. (Which really is pretty awesome.)

that Lee, Gaara, Kimimaro fight? was my favorite part in the whole series :) granted, I gave up on it not long after the Sasuke/Naruto Epic Battle of Epicness, in the pre-shippuden slush :/ I think if I had the ability at the time to skip over the episodes you're heading into, I probably wouldn't have stopped watching...

The Lee/Gaara/Kimimaro fight was awesome! Partly because Naruto is a series that sort of wanders between taking itself seriously and making fun of itself, and that fight was like a clash between the two views: Kimimaro was SRS BZNS, and then there was drunk!Lee who was... not. And then Gaara showed up to tie it all together. :D

I am most definitely just skipping straight from here to Shippuden. I haven't heard anything good about the filler.

hahaha, that's exactly why I loved this show, and why Avatar (the last airbender) is probably my favorite anime-ish series of all time :)

ahhh good plan. I didn't wanna spoil, but the filler is just... awful. Waiting week after week for that crap left a bad taste in my mouth towards the show :/

If you're in the States and curious, Shippuden's free to watch on Hulu. There's still some filler but the filler is much, much better.
