Oh the wonders of modern technology. In the 50s, most television was actually live, put out onto the airwaves at the time it was really happening. Today almost all television, even reality TV is taped in advance, giving the networks the ability to edit and splice as needed. By doing this much embarrassment has been averted.
But this writer has uncovered a much more sinister motive behind the taping of reality shows; a motive so horrible that it would make even the most rabid conspiracy theorist shudder.
Please don’t tune me out. This is not a hoax. For the sake of your brother and sisters. For the sake of all those you hold dear. You will rue the day you turned your back and scoffed. I just barely escaped with this information and I am currently in hiding under an assumed name.
When I was a guest during the ninth season of The Amazing Race (TAR), I found out just how far our government’s influence goes. An entire episode of the show has been destroyed and all the contestants debriefed (and not in the fun sense of the word).
That fateful day the teams had to travel to an unknown island and find their gold ticket. BJ and Tyler were in last place and had to beg for money and clothes, only to arrive on the island after all the other teams. After several failed attempts at hailing a taxi, the guys bought a map and saw that their goal was just downwind and below them. They decided to hang glide.
They thought it was quite fun. A wonderful experience that they could share together as neither had ever flown this way before. The problem was they had read the map wrong and ended on the far and uninhabited side of the island.
The foliage was so thick they thought they might never make it back. Luckily they came upon a clearing. “Cool,” they exclaimed as one. A small town was hidden here. “This must be where they filmed The Prisoner.”
“Looks like it BJ.”
People were everywhere. They were playing croquet, bicycling, playing checkers, and sitting under beach umbrellas drinking and watching the waves roll in.
"Hello, you must be new here. What did the government get you for?”
BJ and Tyler’s jaws dropped. They recognized the person, but it couldn’t be. He led them to a table where everyone was drinking. “I am Elvis. This is John Lennon, James Dean, Kurt, Joe, and Freddie.”
“Don’t keep them standing there,” said a familiar voice from behind. Marilyn took her place at the table. “Merc, hun move over and give these men room." She looked straight at BJ and Tyler, "Now boys, would you like the red or the white?"
Well, needless to say, this writer found her way out of there. No government was going to lock her away on an island, even with these wonderful men. But if they ever pick up Sawyer, hmmmmm...
Here is the arial map of the village
