Since my college just started fall quarter yesterday, I thought a salient topic for our last biweekly head canon discussion post would be:

On 1. My own personal canon is that he's gifted in transfiguration and arithmancy as well as being very proficient in defense and charms and weakest in potions (I could imagine the patience needed for it as being frustrating to him.), but overall a good student in grades if not in behavior.

On 4. Sirius doesn't strike me as a jock or a team player really. Too rebellious for that really. I could see him being a fan and if you view him as gay/bi as mooning over the players but I can't help but think he would be total pants at actually playing.

I figure he played pickup Quidditch at home with Regulus, or when staying with James, but if he had played for Hogwarts I think we'd have been told about it. Though I have to say I don't find fic that puts Sirius on the Gryffindor Quidditch team anywhere near as inherently weird as having Severus play Quidditch for Slytherin.

Lol, indeed. While I don't see Sirius as a jock, Severus is the anti-jock. Although he does referee matches so he must be into it on some level.

I've always been in the camp that says Sirius and James were actually smarter than Remus, even though he was more studious. I think studies and learning came easy to them, which was why they didn't put much effort into it.

I don't think Sirius either loved or hated most of his classes. He wasn't the kind of student who enjoyed school, but he was always near the top of his class anyway. I do think he hated potions. Potions requires a different sort of thought process and a patience that wouldn't come naturally to someone like Sirius. I think he got by in it, but it was never his best subject.

I think Sirius liked McGonagall. Most Gryffindors are fond of her. I can see him and James seeing it as a game to try not to get caught by her, but still holding affection for her in spite of her strictness. And I'm amused by the idea of Sirius having some vague sort of crush on her the way people sometimes do towards a teacher.

I like this idea too. And hey, after dealing with his mum, McGongall might seem like a pussycat to him, er, no pun intended.

There is a wonderful video on youtube to do with this. If you search their names, it is the first result to come up (set to Does Your Mother Know? - which says a lot about it ;P)

1 and 2 - I can picture Remus getting annoyed at both James and Sirius because they never studied but still got good grades. I think J.K.Rowling actually said words to that effect (that James and Sirius were bright but not studious) Like others have said, I don't see him having patience for Potions, and because Snape liked Potions so much, I can just see Sirius spending lessons trying to sabotage Snape.
And he must have been good at Transfiguration to become an Animagus, although I do see Sirius bragging as well.
4 - A lot of fics have Sirius have a Beater, and while I can see Sirius enjoying hitting things at other people, I think he would have told Harry about it. When he told Harry that he was the one who bought the Firebolt, he could have been like "yeah, much better than the broom I used to play on." But he didn't ( ... )
