Head Canon Discussion: Sirius & School

Sep 24, 2013 09:30

Since my college just started fall quarter yesterday, I thought a salient topic for our last biweekly head canon discussion post would be:

Sirius & School

(The Marauders by *agartaa on deviantART)

1. What subjects did Sirius get his OWLs and NEWTs in? What were his favorite and least favorite subjects and/or teachers? (Feel free to include other staff such as Hagrid and Madam Pomfrey as "teachers".)

2. Teenage Sirius remarks in "Snape's Worst Memory" that he thought their Defence Against the Dark Arts OWL was "a piece of cake," and that he doesn't need to "look at that rubbish" for their Transfiguration exam because he knows it all. Just bragging? Or does he really get consistently good grades? Do you think he puts much effort into his subjects, or is he the type who seems to breeze through every assignment and test without trying? (McGonagall describes James and Sirius as "exceptionally bright", and Lupin as "the cleverest students in the school", in PoA.)

3. What was Sirius's careers advice meeting like? (See OotP, Ch. 29)

4. Did Sirius play Quidditch or take part in any clubs?

5. How about his relationship to his Head of House, Minerva McGonagall? Did she despair of ever getting him and James to behave (PoA: "I don't think we've ever had such a pair of troublemakers--"), or maybe she was secretly proud of their cleverer exploits? But then - how much do you think was she even aware of in the first place? (To judge by Harry's detentions near the end of HBP, they have some 44 boxes of cards in Filch's files recording punishments...)

6. Are there any awards with his name on them tucked away among the "cups, shields, plates and statues" in the trophy room? Probably not Special Awards for Services to the School... how about a Medal for Magical Merit, or anything else?
