[Axel shakes his head.] No, I... I know you know Hollow Bastion. [He thinks he heard that's where you died, but he's not going to say that. His hand swims awkwardly to the back of his neck and he squeezes the tightened tendons there a moment before threading his fingers together in his lap.] It ain't the same, though. Radiant Garden was a cheesy-ass name for a world, but it was still home. The first time I got sent on a mission to 'Hollow Bastion' I thought I was gonna throw up. [He'd been told that the worlds that had been destroyed had been restored thanks to Sora, but Hollow Bastion was not Radiant Garden, no matter how he looked at it.

[He sighs then, avoiding Demyx's eye and frowning at his hands.]

We've had something in common with that place long before now, Demyx. [He gives him a watery smile.] It was the first world to fall. Because that castle is where all the Darkness nonsense started. In a way, it's kind of where we're all from. At least in the form we're in now, anyway.

[He and Isa had snuck into the castle ( ... )

Ah, yes, the life of a kelp farmer; don't knock it 'til you've tried it. [A chuckle.] No, thanks; I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but I'm pretty sure I'd suck at gardening. I'll leave that to Marluxia.

[He sighs and takes a bite of pizza. This is... weird. Not necessarily bad weird, but weird all the same. Saïx was always the only one who knew anything about his past, and that was because he'd been a part of it. He had never told anyone anything about life in Radiant Garden. The only people with whom he had ever even discussed the fact that his past existed were Roxas and Xion, and he couldn't tell them about it. It just never felt fair to talk to them about something they didn't have--couldn't have.]

My old man actually worked on the construction on the aqueduct--he designed a bit of it. Nothing major, like... I can't say he's responsible for it, but he had a hand in it. [He flexed one hand, then closed it into a fist, frowning. He hadn't given much thought to his parents after Garden had fallen. It was easier to ( ... )

Hey, it was good kelp from what I remember. S'weird but I still remember a lot from before I started really living in Atlantica.

[He can't help but snort at the mental image of Axel crawling through the ventilation systems of the castle back in the World That Never Was. He knows its a completely different one, but it's the same principle, really!]

D-Dude, you're probably skinny enough to crawl through a dog door. Didn't you guys ever get busted for B&Eing into that castle? I mean, I've done my fair share of going into the castle back in Atlantica but I knew the king's daughters. What was it like in there, anyways? I always wanted to go take a look-see at the place but it looked haunted so I veered away from it.

Never tried kelp, myself... [He makes a bit of a face.] Dunno that I'm a seaweed kind'a guy, you know?

And for the record, I only crawled through a dog-door once. Because my neighbor had locked his keys inside. That doesn't even count and B&E, okay?

[Then he makes a noise that isn't quite a laugh. Did they get busted? What a question...]

It was... dark, mostly. The hallways were long and echoed when people walked, so we could almost always tell when someone was coming. [Unless it was Braig, the sneaky bastard.] But yeah, we... got caught a few times. Never really found what we were looking for, either.

I'll grab some next time we go grocery shopping so you can try it. Heck, I'll even bring it to work to see how many weird looks I get from co-workers.

[He stares at him for a few seconds, and then he laughs softly.]

I'm gonna call you a walking matchstick from now on, dude. You're way too scrawny.

[And then he pauses, rubbing at his neck a little awkwardly.]

So... It was kinda like the place where we lived 'cept with more color?

[/UNSURE] How do you eat seaweed anyway? I'd think it'd be difficult to cut with a knife--do you twirl it like noodles?

[And then he kicks Demyx's ankle.]

Now that's just rude. I'm not scrawny, I'm metabolically inclined. [Pause.] Admittedly, it's impossible to find pants in a size 0 tall. [Maybe he should have asked Jack Skellington where he shopped...

[He purses his lips at Demyx's next question.]

Mm... not exactly. The Castle in Never Was always seemed kind of... ethereal. You know? Like if you didn't walk carefully it might just break beneath your feet. I couldn't tell you what that castle was made of--that strange white... it wasn't stone, I dunno what it was. All the white walls and grey floors and tall windows, everything seemed really fragile to me. [A shake of his head.] Garden's castle wasn't like that. It was stone and steel and brass. Always felt grounded.

[Maybe that was what had never seemed right about Never Was--it was always... up in the air, it never felt steady. The castle was on a mysterious ( ... )

It kinda depends on how you're gonna use it in food.

[Yeouch! He rubs at the sore spot with his other foot, giving Axel an incredulous look as he pokes at his own hips] There is no way you're a size 0, dude. That's like... Chick-size.

[And then he frowns, glancing up at the ceiling. The windows... Sometimes he wishes some of them were smaller. He was always a little edgy when he stood by the ones in the Grey Room out of the paranoia that someone could break the glass and shove him right out.]

...I thought about redecorating the place a few times with a super soaker filled with paint. I was sick of the only color in the place being our own personal rooms in the place and our eyes 'n hair.

[He cuffs Demyx gently upside the head.] I was being facetious, you lunkhead. [He's not even sure what his waist-size is; he never paid that much attention, but since everybody teases him about his girlish figure anyway...]

A super-soaker? [He puts a hand on his chin.] That's inventive. M'sure Saïx would'a loved that. [He grins a bit.] Well, are you allowed to paint this place? Last I checked most leases allow for painting so long as you put it back to white before you move out.

[Ow. Except it didn't really hurt. He just grins and waves at the offending hand.] Hothead.

[And then he forms the 'finger steeple of plotting'.] I probably could've gotten away with it, too. All I'd hafta do is point fingers at the Dusks or something. But, uh, I was thinkin' 'bout painting this place up before you even moved in but I could never make up my mind about the colors. I'm, uh, not exactly that great on interior design. We're pretty much allowed to paint it whatever colors we want though.

Well, I'm no artist either, but I'd say just about anything's better'n Hospital Room White. [He taps his chin.] Xion and Naminé are girls--don't girls have that kind'a stuff like built-in? Maybe they can help.

[Funny. Suddenly he's mostly forgotten he was startled awake by bad memories in the first place.]
