Who: Sonya and Sub-zero When: Sometime late at night. Where: Sonya's room at the start apartments Summary: Sub-zero decides to 'check in' on another Earthrealmer Warnings: violence and language.
Sub-Zero had kept an eye on Sonya since her arrival, catching up with her and staying out of sight in his spare time. He was moderately sure she was who she claimed to be, but he was suspicious anyway.
Which was why he was in Sonya's apartment in the middle of the night. He'd been in once before, during the day when he was sure she wasn't in. She was in bad shape from what he'd seen, and in no condition to put up a fight.
No one who knew him would be willing to lose to keep up their cover. Not when he was known for his ruthlessness as well as his skill. Since he wasn't really here to kill, he approached differently, opening the door to her bedroom as quietly as possible and stepping inside in near total silence.
For the moment, Sonya found herself back in Outworld, a creak or a door opening alerting her to someone in her cell. Her eyes opened suddenly and it took her a moment to realize that she wasn't in Outworld, but an apartment bedroom. It took even a second later for her to realize that the steps (soft as they were-she had to strain her ears to prove they weren't her imagination) were real.
In Sonya's experience, those that decided to pay a call this time of night never did so with 'friendly intentions'.
Carefully, she reached a hand under her pillow and pulled out a fighting knife. Instincts on alert, she climbed out of bed and slowly, quietly, made her way to the doorway of her room, keeping her back to the wall as she tried to see who or what had invaded.
He paused outside what he determined to be her room, and unlocked the door. He gave it a gentle push and let it swing open, slowly, on its own. The bed that came into view was empty, and he scowled behind his mask. She wasn't out, he was certain of that much.
Sonya forced her breath to keep steady when she heard the door unlock and saw it slowly open. It wasn't paranoia-someone was in her room. Her grip on the knife tightened as she slid as much out of the door's way as possible, wanting to get the chance to see the intruder without actually sticking her head out.
