The days had melted, dripped and blurred together into a puddle at Sasuke's feet, no longer distinguishable from one another, and he supposed at some point the holidays had come and gone. They seemed to have meant a great deal more in this world than the one he was from, but it made no difference to him. The vague memories of childhood festivities were there, certainly, but were easy enough to smother in flashing steel and splattered blood.
He'd spent a few hours cutting down monsters before finally heading to the flat Jack and Sirius shared, slightly scuffled and bloodied with his sword at his hip. He was only going there to eat, he told himself-- Certainly not to meet that imbecilic roommate of Jack's, or to accept that equally imbecilic gift from his undoubtedly imbecilic hands.
Right.
He entered in the usual manner--without knocking, via window--and set his sword against the wall as he immediately wandered toward the kitchen for some food.

And he was already making for the kitchen. Typical.
"I didn't leave it in there," he said, raising his voice just slightly. He fell to the page of his essay again, adding an extra set of eyes on that face. "And if you touch even the paper wrapped around my sandwich in there, I will put your toes on backwards or something, really give you what for. You wouldn't like it, anyway, it isn't bitter enough for you."

As usual, Sirius was smirking, having the look of someone who was eternally enjoying the punch line of a joke that no one else was in on. A half-empty glass of liquor was close by, and the smell was unmistakable--Sasuke's frown deepened.
"Really shooting for excellence there," he remarked.

"Perfect," he announced, "likely to win awards." And only then did he look up at Sasuke, picking up his glass again and raising it in a toast. "Thanks for noticing, though. I figured one of us has to at least try for excellence, and as you're too busy sulking to have a go at it--well, might as well be me."
And he took a huge sip, more to be irritating than anything else, then set aside the glass once more with a self-satisfied sigh. "Ready for Christmas?"
Reply
"It's over," he replied shortly, biting away at his apple. Honestly, he wasn't even sure anymore. Just like in Edelweiss, the days weren't separated anymore--just oddly tacked together into a string of formless shapes hanging over his head.

"Typical bitter old you," he said, leaning back to consider Sasuke with a skeptical eye. "Did you do anything for Christmas? Get any gifts? More importantly, get any gifts from me? I doubt the former, the middle one seems questionable but possible, and I know that the latter didn't happen. Which makes it an unofficial sort of Christmas. But if you don't care, of course," and he sighed, deeply, putting on an air of muted offense, "really, if you don't care, I'll simply keep your present. It's over there, incidentally, that midsized wrapped box in the corner."

He peered over at the corner, at the aforementioned gift, eying it with an air of suspicion before reaching over to take it in hand. He didn't open it right away, instead glancing up to give Sirius a searching sort of look.
"You know, if I accept this, you better not hold it over my head later." His words didn't have the sharp edge they normally did; instead, they were quite dull and ineffectual-- Almost harmless. Almost teasing.

But, still: was he teasing back? An entirely new development, and one not to be missed.
"Oh, yeah," he said with a sneer, leaning over his drawing again, "I'm planning to do just that. Because you have so much that I want." It really wasn't anything anyway, he thought, starting on the shading again. A jacket with a bedazzling hex, enough to draw the eye away from whoever was wearing it; he'd made one for Re-l as well. And it was as good a gift as any for some stupid little tit who skulked about outdoors all the time, he thought, rolling his eyes. At least he wouldn't be seen outright and killed. Jack would be none too [leased about any developments to that end.

Swallowing the lump in his throat that had formed with the sudden onslaught of memories, Sasuke opened the unwrapped box, lifting out a jacket. It was nothing spectacular, but it certainly didn't look cheap, and he bit his lip as he examined it.
