As it turned out, Shizuo still wasn't sure what to make of this place. He'd learned more about it, but much of it was still shrouded in mystery. He knew how to take the trains and get around a bit better at this point, but he still hadn't seen a large portion of the city if the maps he'd looked over were any indication. He'd met some people who he -- for the most part -- liked and got along with. Some of them he'd only met digitally, so to speak -- which wasn't such a strange concept, but he personally wasn't used to it. Back in Tokyo he'd mainly kept to himself, but here he could put himself out some more if only because no one really knew who he was. Except for Izaya, who was always an annoying flea who Shizuo would rather not think about -- but at least he hadn't been making too much trouble so far ( ... )

When approached, Ikutsuki's gaze flickered to the cigarette first as he casually readjusted his glasses. They were outside, so it would be rude to ask him to remove it; rude to ask at all, really. He wanted to be as agreeable as possible, not make unnecessary demands. It would always be easier to convince people who were willing, and if any extra action needed to be taken in future, they were far less likely to have seen it coming. He knew his situation in this city was delicate, already knew of the suspicions of some of those who had remembered him from home, so he had to be careful. But that was all right; he tried not to be in the habit of making mistakes.

His smile was somewhat wan -- it had been a long day, after all; when the students he worked with weren't parroting propaganda at him, they were having small crises about anything from relationships to morals to careers and their futures without realising that none of that mattered beyond the most superficial of levels -- yet, he remained pleasant in demeanor at least. "That's ( ... )

Shizuo hadn't expected any bright smiles from the man. From their few conversations, Ikutsuki had come off as a pretty serious guy, which would hopefully make this job simple. Shizuo didn't think it would take much effort on his part. While the monsters here definitely put up more of a fight than the random gang members who would attack him back home, his attitude was calm and clearly unconcerned ( ... )

Ikutsuki followed, although he had to exert an alarming amount of effort to keep up. He was getting old, it seemed, even if in the grand scheme of things, he was only merely knocking on the boundary of 'middle-aged'. He missed the vitality of youth; many didn't seem to appreciate what they had until it was gone, caught up in unimportant, insignificant matters ... ah, it was their loss really.

"That's correct," he affirmed, not particularly caring which direction they went in. It had just seemed needlessly suspicious to linger outside a highly-occupied building. "I'll be mostly be observing today, just to see what it's like with my own eyes, establish a pattern of behavior. Do they attack without any provocation, or are they more likely to be triggered by say, loud noises or bright lights?"

He was wondering if he could take photographs or record the Darkness somehow; it would of course, be optimal if he could examine a specimen properly, in laboratory conditions, yet it was not to be. Yet. He knew that the university would have ( ... )
