It didn't surprise him to see Mamoru work his way into decent money and possible connections in a relatively short time here. Nagi would have been more startled if the opposite had been true, given that Mamoru was, well, himself. He seemed content enough with whatever role he stuck himself in and Nagi's job wasn't to question that contentness, it was to keep him safe, even here when the threats weren't based on his name or power, but more likely to be because he seemed powerless compared to others in the city.

He quietly looked around the apartment in the easy silence before Mamoru spoke. "It's a generally formal place compared to what I've heard of SERO, but they don't go out of their way to hide that they're involved with most of the city's entertainment, take that as you will." And there was the slave trade, but he assumed Mamoru knew that detail already since it was common knowledge among locals.

Mamoru did indeed know of the slave trade AGI facilitated, but he'd heard there were advantages to affiliation with either faction, and Mamoru was not one to pass up a potential advantage.

"Was it difficult to get in?"

"Not particularly. As you've seen, security jobs are in demand all over and demonstrating my capabilities was all it took. I'll be stuck in the lower ranks for some time though - rank seems to be very based on seniority rather than actual competency." That wasn't too much of a change from companies in Japan, but Nagi didn't have to enjoy that system when it left him watching people one mistake away from ending up at a slave auction tell people what to do.

He absently adjusted one shirt sleeve and thought for a moment. "If you're considering it, you may have trouble because you're just a normal human so far." Neither company thought much of people who lacked powers - they were the minority here, after all.

The seniority system was certainly disadvantageous in this case, but not a system new to him, nor an insurmountable obstacle. A small role in the company that didn't require much of his time would help him garner seniority without costing him his much better position at The Lion's Gate. That would suffice for now; he only wanted to get his foot in the door.

The other obstacle, however, would be rather more difficult to overcome. They could not change the preference for people with Talents, nor could they force his body to develop one. And even if he did have it, Mamoru was not so eager to let anyone else know about it. It made a wonderful trump card to pretend to be "normal."

"I see... Then the trick is to prove oneself valuable even without powers."
