All in all, Mamoru was satisfied with the place he'd made for himself in the city given the short period he'd been in it. He had a job that paid well and offered a connection to the island's wealthiest citizens. He had a nice apartment that finally had all its needed furnishings. He had a bank account rapidly expanding thanks to a combination of respectably high salary and conservative spending habits. And he had Nagi with him as a powerful ally and connection into where he wanted to establish himself next.
He sat in his living room with him, a tray with tea and light snacks on the coffee table. The late afternoon sun lit the room through reinforced windows. Excepting the laptop situated atop a folder full of papers on the other side of the coffee table, nothing was out of place. The spines of the books on the shelves were aligned, the sink free of dishes, the television screen freshly dusted. An atomic clock mounted to the wall kept perfect track of the time and informed the room's occupants that it was precisely 72.6 degrees inside.
