[Someone's looking better. She's put on weight, and looks like she's actually begun filling out back to her previous weight. Her face isn't nearly as hollow, even if she's got a ways to go.

Currently, she's sitting, stitching something in her hands. She barely looks up at the camera, even though she seems to know it was on.]So, the Core ( Read more... )

When you put it that way, it sounds like the Core might just be returning to its normal state.

You look like you're getting better.

...uh, I heard some of the people living here were... among those who were yanked away. [With an unspoken 'you all right?']

Yeah. A couple of them. Both from my world, if not from the same times, I think. Timelines get complicated.

I'm feelin' okay. Off most of the IVs and stuff, as long as I stuff myself. Michael and the Prof are still hovering, though.

Mm-- that's good.

[She pauses, unsure of what else to say for the moment.]

You usually ride motorcycles?

So...it hasn't done the whole "sending people back" thing as much, before?

Well, I dunno about that, but it hasn't gone this long without yanking people here, that's for sure. Usually people, if they leave, will leave in ones and twos over a few weeks, but they're usually, well, replaced I guess? Pretty quickly. This time, the Core isn't bringing people in.

Hmm. [He nods slowly.]

...well, isn't it kind of a good thing that it isn't bringing people in?

[A shrug, and the silk slides off her lap before she can stop it. She carefully gathers it back up and puts it in her lap.]

I guess. But it's not like we can go home, ya know?

It's difficult to say anything conclusive when hardly any of us have actually seen the Core or have enough understanding of it to assess it's difference in behaviour beyond theories. It's true that it's recent activity has pretty much stalled in comparison, and I often wonder if it isn't due in part to some tampering rather than any natural malfunction, but the city seems to take this new behaviour to heart in hopes of pushing us out altogether.

[Oh, hey, she remembers you.]

Well, it doesn't surprise me that the government wants us gone. Kinda used to that, honestly. I do wonder if the radiation that might've leaked from it, when it was discovered had something to do with it acting up now. But, I'm not a scientist at all.

and, anyway, all we've got now is speculation and theories.

Unfortunately it's unlikely we'll receive any public information about the current state of the Core, but the City seems to believe it's recent behaviour is at least somewhat permanent.

Well, if it is, that means something changed. I guess it'll be up to us to figure out what that something is. Not the first time.
