I'm just saying, this is the second time marriage has come up this week. It's like we're playing Death, Death, Shotgun Wedding up here.

... some people just do it for the money anyway. People always talk about how it's a special thing but that doesn't mean anything anymore.

Ah, true. But you do get a huge party with the possibility of an open bar.

Yeah, that's true. It may all be a total waste of time and money but you can't argue with an open bar.

Somehow I don't think you've done much actual research on the subject.

You can certainly love someone without a marriage. In my case, marriage is rather impossible... and in my world the full benefits of marriages were only given to couples of one man and woman, so you were limited in that respect.

That is a sticky wicket, isn't it?

It can be when someone is forced to pay inheritance taxes on their spouse of twenty or thirty years' property they inherit when they die... which is not necessary for heterosexual couples.

Though honestly I never found a need for marriage. [A small laugh.] Any time I asked someone they shot me down.

I think marriage can be important, but it's not the most important thing in a relationship. It probably varies between people. Some people might not think much of it, some might think it's a great thing. Doesn't always work though. And not everyone can do it, which kind of makes it unfair.
