[The feed reveals, mostly, an extremely sooty cloak, at the head of which is a serious-looking Raven. She's avoided getting any injuries by flying around and careful use of her telekinesis, and it seems she's been pulling wreckage off the building, looking for surviving victims. She raises a glowing hand and another metal strut flies off.]

[hmm... fess up, or lie? HMM... nah, better lie. it would be a hassle if Raven got mad at her for causing this, or something.]

I'm fine, and already here. No clues yet.

[Her relief isn't exactly palpable, but there's a note of it.] Good.

Have you seen the blast site? It's weird. It just seems like someone went... overboard. I don't know why they'd want to blow up the apartment buildings, but they used more than they'd need for the lab.

Dunno. Not much use speculating until we got proof, anyway.

I suppose so. How are you going to start investigating?

Then what do you suggest they do instead?

The alternatives aren't easy, but fighting them with terrorism, especially the kind that isn't directed right at the companies, isn't helping. That invites a crackdown, with public sentiment in their favor. It sounds sappy, but we need to change their minds. And take down the worst of them when necessary.

Another pacifist.

No, I'm suggesting we fight when we have to. Also known as not being homicidal.

Good. We could do with more help.

[ she pauses, watching her and Alex's conversation ]

He's lying. Don't listen to him.

All right, good.

Who is he? Girl-Robin just told me he probably wasn't the culprit.

Alex.

And I really... hate to say this, but don't listen to Robin right now either. He was there.

[Private eye-roll.] I meant more like what's his deal.

[She pauses. What does "don't listen to Robin" mean?]

I guess she could be wrong. But... you make it sound like she's lying.

No offense, but I'm not sure this is the most productive place for you to be. This mess isn't mental.

Though--...[She breaks off. No, better let this be investigated herself.]

Well, that's humanity for you. Not always big on the smart choices. [He's so full of SIIIGH right now. At least he's SUBTLE about his acts of... Vigilante shit.]

You can say that again. But apparently, we've got to live with it.

[She sighs.]

Couple thousand years, you kinda get used to the fact that ninety percent of the apocalypse gets brought down, because of people being stupid. Best to just pull up a chair, put out some fires, and wait until the next moron with good intentions jumps the fence.

So yeah. You gotta live with it. Sucks to be you, huh? [Keeping his whole "BUT HUMANS DO TRY AND IT'S ADORABLE" feelings to himself, thank you.]

I don't know if I'd say they're plain stupid. People are usually trying their best, but they have this complete inadequacy to see how they might be wrong about things. When you get in an argument, you care more about seeming right than being right. Call it stupidity, I guess.

You're -- hm, you're the guy who posted about catching the mining gear killer, right?

Huh. A couple thousand years? What are you, exactly?
