Real sad about all those kids who died in the slums, huh? Any of you guys goin' to the funeral?

...Is anyone else getting freaked out about the classified ads today and yesterday? A cat boy with two tails? What the fuck, man?

[OOC: If anyone's interested in seeing him there, Kanji will be skulking some distance from the funeral, just close ( Read more... )

It's utterly unconscionable. These advertisements posted in the damned news, as though these people are objects for sale - it's unconscionable.

Then may I commend to you, perhaps, the use of your brain? Or is that too steep an order? The fact that the action is not violent does not render it a failure to act. The fact that I realize that simply bruising my knuckles upon another man's head will change nothing does not make me a coward. I'll thank you to make the grand effort to restrain your self-righteousness.

Oh fuck you, man. You talk so fucking big. But the fact is that your stupid plan isn't gonna actually help anyone, but you can sit back and say "Hey, I'm doin' the right thing. I'm makin' a difference." and feel big and important.

The truth is, you don't got the balls to go out and actually make a difference. Not if it might mess up your hair.

Oh? Then tell me, you who are perfectly willing to make the grand sacrifice of having your hair mussed. Tell me what your plan will do. No, quite all right: I'll spare you from answering once more that you do not know. The fact is that it will do nothing. Nothing at all. It will merely serve to make you just as criminal as they are.

Are you familiar, perhaps, with the history of the United States?

Whatever, man. At least I might do something. Might save one person's life.

I know some stuff. They don't really teach much American history in Japanese history classes, you know. Why?

Because there was a time, once, when we had slavery. It would have come easily and cleanly to an end had some not turned to violence to enforce their idealism.

Oh yeah? Why would it have ended?

Because it would have. Because of concerted political action on the part of abolitionists, it was in its death throes - until those who supported it turned to war in its defense.

Puttin' aside the fact that it was the people who wanted to keep their slaves who got rough, which is totally different - how long did it take to get that far?

A great deal of time, yet that is not entirely parallel.

No? Why ain't it parallel? Why should those people have to wait and get raped and die while we try to change the government? None of them will probably still be alive by the time your plan works.

How can you say that's the right way? Don't you give a damn about them, or just about the laws?

Because slavery was a financial institution, and as such letting it go in that situation would have meant an economic change. Here it would mean only a social change, and if you illuminate the sheer wrongness of the act, then in time, people will realize that.

And of course I care for them. I just realize that your way is entirely useless.

Ain't it all about money now, too? They're selling the people.

Whatever, man.

Not precisely. The economy does not depend upon them, because they do not produce wealth. They just...are - sex slaves. It seems.

Still don't see why your way is gonna do shit. If they don't think it's wrong, nothin' we say is gonna make 'em change their minds.

That's where you're incorrect. Every person is rational. If they are confronted with the truth of their misdeeds, they will change.
