[The sound comes on with a small click, and there isn't too long before Ikutsuki starts to speak, his tone fascinated:]

Siren's Port, Canada. The year is 2010. We have all been brought from different places and different times, by methods unknown. One might wonder what to make of it all. Personally, I find this occurrence fascinating and one that ( Read more... )

I'm interested in l-learning more about it myself, it'd be nice to talk about it s-sometime.

As for shops, I think I s-saw a couple on my way to school that have some winter coats.

How much information were you given?

Not enough. [sliiight irritation!] That man, he mentioned the corporations, but then told me to stay completely away from them.

I see. It may be best to heed those warnings.

But what of other information? Such as the sirens, and the monsters?

Oh, yes, I've heard of those. I think I'll stay indoors.

Why is staying away from the corporations so highly recommended?

There's a whole mall, totally underground. It's real shiny. Bet you could find somethin' there!

Finances may be of some concern, however...I didn't receive a particularly high income for my work, not to mention I've heard that my money isn't used here. Although I doubt they could get a bank account working between...[A slight awe-filled pause.] ... between dimensions.

Oh, that ain't no problem! Us newcomers here, we help each other out. There's a whole fund made just for problems like that!

A whole fund?

[he could get that coat if he can't get his answers at least...]

Most research done on the local phenomena are handles by the universities, or by SERO Corporation. Although there are innumerable projects underway, not many have turned up solid explanations.

The Pull is the force which brings us here, from various wheres and whens, and keeps us from returning, or leaving the island. You can feel it like a curious gravitational tug, if you're near the shore. It grows stronger further out, I'm told.

There is an artifact known as the Core, its whereabouts currently uncertain, and the knowledge of its making or design lost, which has malfunctioned and is blamed for most of the problems here. It might be responsible for the Pull?

As for the Darkness- I don't know if you've been warned of the sirens, but after sunset, keep inside. There are monsters which roam the streets at night.

Winter coats can be found all over, in the department stores, or a specialty shop. The Mall downtown is popular, but there are smaller places, nearer in the fourth sector.

Ah, thank you! You've been most helpful. Actually, I've been warned about the monsters. Sounds dangerous; I think I'll stay indoors. [A chuckle.]

So, this Core that has malfunctioned...is it some sort of machine?

Presumably. Not much is known about it's whereabouts, its construction, or it's function,....or even the intended purpose, though most suspect it was made to keep us here.

If it were destroyed, would it return everyone to their respective homes?

[Oh hell no. No way. No. Way. Because things couldn't get any worse? No, time to stay calm. Caaalm. Really calm. This was going to be tough.]

Ikutsuki-san. If Aragaki can show up, I should have expected you to as well.

[Ah, another familiar voice!]

Ah, Mitsuru. I did think Shinjiro's presence here was a little unexpected, myself.

[Doesn't quite pick up on the meaning of the 'as well', though, because ... pretty sure he was still alive.]

Don't talk to me like that. You have no right to.

[Yeah, she mad. She really mad. She'd really like to go and do something, but she's still holding back. Was he just acting dumb like he had been before?]

You made it perfectly clear that we're not on the same side.

Mitsuru, chill out. I know his jokes suck, but damn.

It's the Chairman, the hell're you going on about?
