[The sound comes on with a small click, and there isn't too long before Ikutsuki starts to speak, his tone fascinated:]

Siren's Port, Canada. The year is 2010. We have all been brought from different places and different times, by methods unknown. One might wonder what to make of it all. Personally, I find this occurrence fascinating and one that ( Read more... )

Most research done on the local phenomena are handles by the universities, or by SERO Corporation. Although there are innumerable projects underway, not many have turned up solid explanations.

The Pull is the force which brings us here, from various wheres and whens, and keeps us from returning, or leaving the island. You can feel it like a curious gravitational tug, if you're near the shore. It grows stronger further out, I'm told.

There is an artifact known as the Core, its whereabouts currently uncertain, and the knowledge of its making or design lost, which has malfunctioned and is blamed for most of the problems here. It might be responsible for the Pull?

As for the Darkness- I don't know if you've been warned of the sirens, but after sunset, keep inside. There are monsters which roam the streets at night.

Winter coats can be found all over, in the department stores, or a specialty shop. The Mall downtown is popular, but there are smaller places, nearer in the fourth sector.

Ah, thank you! You've been most helpful. Actually, I've been warned about the monsters. Sounds dangerous; I think I'll stay indoors. [A chuckle.]

So, this Core that has malfunctioned...is it some sort of machine?

Presumably. Not much is known about it's whereabouts, its construction, or it's function,....or even the intended purpose, though most suspect it was made to keep us here.

If it were destroyed, would it return everyone to their respective homes?

I couldn't say. It might render inter-dimensional travel impossible both ways.

The fact that it made this possible at all is entirely fascinating in itself.

It is, isn't it? The full implications...now that's almost impossible to conceive, without a better understanding of how it all functions.

Is there anyone else who knows anything more about its specific functions?

None that I know of by name. Presumably, SERO has a research team working on it...but I doubt they'd let newcomers have a hand in that without building very good corporate rapport.

A pity. A newcomer could potentially bring the research into different direction -- a new set of eyes, all that.

Doubtlessly, and that might be their reservation.

What is there to be reserved about?

We're outsiders. Distrusted unknowns. Wild cards.

That's still no cause for reservation.

Unfortunately, not a view shared by whoever holds the keys the Core.

Well, I suppose if they purposely brought us here, they wouldn't want it to be easy to bring us back. And even if it were an accident, the outcome would still want to be highly examined, of course.
