So the only things I've deduced about this place so far is that it's populated primarily by panicky humans who run at the sight of a stranger, and that's also populated by a host of mutants, biomorphs and other abnormalities that aren't any more social.

[Analyzing the situation helps Garrus stay calm, when he wants to be yelling into his comm. No ( Read more... )

Well, dude, for the most part, the peeps that were here first totally don't like us newcomers that randomly show up. However, we newbies tend to stick together, and help each other out.

Hi, I'm Jubilee. Welcome to Siren's Port.

[Processing. It seemed to reason that he wasn't anywhere in the Galaxy he was familiar with, and Garrus didn't like the implication that "newcomers" randomly showing up meant there were more than one, and that it was a regular occurrence. Just what the hell was going on here?]

At least someone's willing to [give] me a welcome. The boy at the point where I arrived took one look at me and ran. Didn't think the scars were -that- bad. [Dry, faintly amused.]

Jubilee. It's nice to hear a friendly voice. That a call sign or a codename?

Eh, some peeps are just jumpy. Plus, ya know, some people are just bigoted against those that look different. [So says the perfectly normal looking Chinese girl...]

S'not either dude. It's just m'name. Well, a nickname. What's your name?

[Well a nickname made sense, even if he didn't entirely understand it. A name...did he really want to be handing his name out before he knew his situation? Did the first name even matter? What would Sh-]

Shepard.

[It was out of his mouth before Garrus could snap it back, he'd just have to roll with it now.]

So what's the score here Jubilee? I'm dumped in a field somewhere and left to fend for myself? Where exactly is this "Sirens Port"?

Newcomers. That's the second time I've heard that already. People arrive here out of the Black often do they?

[Right, best not to give anything away too early. He'd already slipped up, but it wasn't too late to do a little damage control.]

I havn't looked totally human in a...very long time. [That's sort of the truth. Forever is a long time.] Heavy scarring, reconstructive facial surgery, you get the idea.

Local slang, far as I can tell. But yeah, people're showing up all the damn time in that field.

[An acknowledging noise.] That sucks.

It sucked more when it happened. [There's a smile in his voice, though you wouldn't know it to look at him.]

People just...show up here? And where is here, exactly, besides "Sirens Port"?

By a majority of the locals, to various degrees. I take it you're used to seeing anomalies?

But among the newcomers, most welcome each other-

I've seen my fair share of strange creatures. [Maybe more then my fair share, hanging around with Shepard will do that to you it seems.]

Only most eh? I suppose it's naive to hope everyone's friendly. What about you? You seem to avoid identifying with us "newcomers".

Have you?

Oh...I am a newcomer myself! Everyone on this network is. I've been here since May. It's well, there are times when it's convenient to consider us a community, and times when it is not- namely when a few bad eggs do something reckless.

Indeed. The population of places I'm used to seems a little more...cosmopolitan than this place. At least on the surface.

Ah, always a few bad eggs to ruin the batch. Are they in minority here?

Um, that's just signs! You can ignore them.

I think I will, people on this communication seem much friendlier so far. I don't think we've met though miss...?

[Might as well make friends while he could. No telling how long he was going to end up stuck here.]

It's nice to meet you, Maya Fey. My name's Shepard. Have you been in this place long?

[It seemed like the amount of time spent here varied dramatically from person to person.]

That New Meat sign seems to be replaced every time someone takes it down...

Anyhow. Not everyone here is as anti-newcomer as those signs. Welcome to the Port though.

[And why does this voice sound like one she's heard before...]

That's too bad, not a sign that needs to be up. It lends a certain air of...unfriendliness to this place.

[There's a wry grin in his voice.]

I'm glad to hear it's not everyone, some kind newcomers have already directed me to the Tower Apartments. Thanks for the welcome Miss...?
