Tonight is the first Full Moon of the new year. I'm so excited! I missed last months Full Moon Ritual so I've got to try to find something really special to do. Nyx doesn't hold grudges, I don't think, but I still feel a little guilty. Especially after all she's given me ( Read more... )

I can pitch a few ideas!

But I've got a few questions first. Like... who is Nyx, exactly?

That'd be great!

Nyx is my goddess, she's the one who Marked me as a Vampyre. She's often called the Goddess of Night, she's very loving. Nyx is also the one that gives me all these Marks.

[See those tattoos Sora? They cover like... half her body!]

Didn't getting all those hurt?

Kind of but they tingled a little, more than anything. Thank the goddess that I didn't get all of them at once.

Hm... this is a tricky one... what did you do last time you celebrated?

Usually, I call all five elements into a circle and thanks Nyx for the events from the last month. And we leave an offering of different fruits and cheeses and everything, with a glass of wine with blood in it. Usually the blood comes from the High Priestesses consort.

He's not here though.

SO why not do that?

After missing one, it feels a little disrespectful not to do something special. I mean, not that Nyx ever really complained with how I pray and everything.

There's a ritual for the first full moon?

Not specifically the first one but we do one every full moon. I just thought that, since it's the first one of the year, it should be even more special. It really is a time for new beginnings.

What do you do for them?

Usually we make an offering to Nyx, fruits, cheeses, wine and that sort of thing. And the High Priestess performing the ceremony evokes the five elements and gives a prayer to the goddess. Then her consort gives blood for the wine.

I'd need to know more about your ceremonies before suggesting anything specific, and I'm not sure how much it's proper for you to say. You could look for a special offering, of course. Or the new year is a time for vows, if you want to do anything with that.

I don't mind telling you. We don't really hide much about our beliefs, it's more that humans never wanted to know.

Ugh! I wish I had the Fledgling Handbook. I could probably get some ideas from that.

In very general terms, what would the Fledgling Handbook say that you did for a ceremony?

Pretty much what we usually do: an offering of fruits, cheeses, wine and that sort of thing. The invoking of all five elements in a circle and a prayer, followed by the sacrifice of blood from the High Priestesses consort. It's just, like, a quick cut across the hand and we let it fall into the wine.

Oh, are you a witch?

I hear they like to strip naked and dance around in forest clearings at midnight. Seems like a good idea to me.

Not quite, I'm a Vampyre fledgling. And we don't really do the naked dancing thing.

[Trying to keep a straight face. So many people believed that they did the dancing naked in a clearing thing.]

I would suggest not having a merry hunt that ends in the spectacular throat ripping of some poor mortal. I hear that's illegal this time of year.

Uh. Perhaps a bonfire with the making of ritual smores?

Oh jeez! I'd never do something like that! Back home, we have a treaty with the humans to never drink from them without permission. And even if we do, it's frowned on. We usually just get blood donated, like from a blood drive.

[Oh hey... That's a really fantastic idea.]

A bonfire sounds awesome!
