Is this on? [A familiar face peers into the device and then sighs, as he sees the NV is indeed working.]

Ok, good.

From what I've heard I've been here before. No, I don't remember. Anyways, that's not important.

[It is but, that's not what the post is about and Dean sits back with a frown.]I've heard the usual run down. Canada, monsters, the ( Read more... )

Well, hello, Dean.

[Lucifer's just lounging. In a bar. Feet up on a table. Even on the small NV screen that much is obvious.]

I know it's not just a machine.

Lucifer.

Yeah? What else is it?

It's aware of us. At least, that's what it looks like.

If it's aware of us, what does that mean for us.

[He'd sensed Dean's return, but he hadn't wanted to act right away. He still doesn't know what point in time this Dean is from, but he's still really glad to see him.]

Dean.

[And Dean makes a relieved sound as he leans forward to get a better look at Castiel.]

Cas, there you are. Doing okay? [He's concerned in his Dean way while subtly relaxing a fraction because he's seen Cas is alive.]

[Castiel looks much the same as he ever does, expression even, but there are small changes. His hair is longer, he's a little pale and exhausted, and there's a silvery scar along the left side of his neck that's visible when the light hits right.

He doesn't seem to notice any of these things though, and brightens just slightly at that reaction. That was not the greeting of a Dean that barely knew who he was.]

I'm fine, Dean. What is the last you remember?

[Is he possibly from a closer time to when Castiel and Sam are from...?]

[He takes in all the details. Castiel looks a lot like when he'd been on that bender, hung over and frustrated at his heavenly father. Dean spreads his hands as he thinks about it.]

Last thing? Finishing up a hunt with Bobby and Sam. It's been a bit since the big this should be ended crap happened. A year. You?

[From the background noise, he's having coffee and reading something with pages.]

Daughter of a bitch, rather than son, I believe.

She thinks. She's alive.

[Dean leans back against the wall and his eyebrow raises.]

Seriously?

...what has she said? I mean, if anyone is able to talk to her.

Seriously. I'm not sure "she" as in what those of us from Earth based cultures would call it but female rather than male, at least. According to what I can tell. She's alien, and some things don't transfer well.

[This? This is why he and Cas are friends.]

No, we cannot communicate with her, too large a communication gap.

[Yeah that. He holds up a hand to show he's processing it all and then goes for what he knows.]

So it's like an angel using their 'true' voice on those that can't handle it? To us it's just this screeching sound and our eardrums explode?

It's broken, stop being mean.

[What. What is. Hang on.]

Broken then, doesn't change we're all here and monsters try to play what's on the inside.

[Have some video of the ocean, Dean, as seen from a high-up mountain balcony on the coast.]

You still don't have to call it names. Being broken is awful, and it's almost impossible to fix yourself after a certain point.

I'm sure it's doing the best it can.

[He looks taken back by that and holds up his hands.]

Look, sorry. I didn't know, ok? But the question is, is she really so broken that she can't fixed if someone knew how?

Know? Very little. It seems to be sentient. Its abilities appears to be powered by both technology and magic, possibly other things as well. It's believed to have been broken nearly a century ago, and the Darkness followed shortly after that damage.

Phenomena attributed to the Core in the last couple of years include bringing the Newcomers here from a variety of times and universes, keeping the inhabitants here with what's called a Pull which brings first pain and then damage and death if you go far enough from the island, a glowing ring at night which seemed to be at the point where the pain of the Pull starts, bringing Newcomers who have been killed here back as if they had just appeared but with the memory of their death, granting Newcomers powers not possessed by normal humans, swapping the non-normal-human powers possessed by much of the city, creating snow globes personalized to many Newcomers, earthquakes, and other things as well.

Wait, back up there a second. Newcomers getting powers. And what's this about....snowglobes?

Re: [Video] frosty_mind January 7 2012, 19:49:40 UTC
The snow globes are simpler. The Core created a lot of snow globes with scenes that seem to be drawn from various Newcomers' lives. When a Newcomer touches a snow globe that has the scenes from his or her life, it glows. People Some are still in a room in the Tower apartments. There probably isn't one for you, since you weren't here when they appeared

Newcomers getting powers. Almost everyone here has a power not possessed by normal humans -- telepathy, telekinesis, the ability to run really fast, magical powers, extraordinarily sharp sight, an ability to put illusionary polka-dots on a wall, something. Most but not all Newcomers also have such powers. Most or all - people aren't forthcoming enough to say which - Newcomers who do not have any such abilities manifest some such power after being here for a while.

[Dean makes a face at the idea of the snowglobes. He can only imagine what parts of his life the snowglobe would show. Likely all of the mistakes, the deaths, and horrific moments. Like Hell.]

Yeah, I'm real broken up about that. [His sarcasm is light, intended to be more of a joke.]

So we can't tell what 'power' we get if we never had them before until they start waking up. Freaking awesome. [He can only think of his mother.] How long a 'while', before they show. Do you know?
