Were you looking to hone your skills for defence or attack? [ And take note of which way she says them. She doesn't spar, doesn't fight unless she has to but helping someone defend themselves? Her daughter had to learn somewhere ]

Generally defense, but if you're trying to win a fight it all becomes the same. Offensive skills wouldn't be bad in a place like this.

Um... [What are actual professional-sounding questions.] Close... up? Hand to hand, I guess, or using a knife. The kind of thing that's small enough to hide on your person. I know my way around guns, too.

Sam. Your mother is a very intelligent woman with two young children and training in handling things most people aren't aware exists. I'm sure she has some sense stranger danger.

If I understand the question right, then yes. I'm good at hand-to-hand and using a knife, but nothing ranged- except guns. I just want to hone the skills I used to have and learn more- defense and offense.
