[ The feed turns on to a peaceful forest clearing. Ahead, curled up in a ball is the spider-dog creation, dozing peacefully. Soon, the unicorn that guards him steps into view, her hew bowing to peer at the snoozing creature, and then continuing on, her steps light and silent ( Read more... )

Growing old is simply the body weakening and shutting down. Something to be feared. [ Although it's not a fear he knows, either. ] You enjoy watching that?

[ Oh hi there Mr. A.I :3 ]

It is a natural process of mortal life. What is there to fear of it?

[ Considering. ]

It is a fascinating process.

You do not fear oblivion? Maybe you've just been too careless to think of it.

I do not. I cannot fear what is merely part of life.

What do you mean, careless?

Perhaps growing old is to fill a cup. Maybe to drink it down. I don't know.

[Frozen in a child's body, and frozen in the naivety of a child in some ways, lost to the cynicism of his centuries in others.]

Do you not watch the humans as time passes?

I do.

[He admits this uncertainly, self-conscious of the way that makes him sound other from them.]

But they are all so very different, I don't think I understand them at all.

Do you not live among them? It would seem associating with humans would aide you in that effort.

I have found it is a pleasant experience. I consider the path of life to be a journey and an adventure, though I believe I still have time left. I am at the point where I have passed on a great deal of my knowledge, and I have seen others rise to be the leaders and take over. It is nice to be removed from the burden of leadership, and be able to focus on living life to its fullest.

What do you do to live life, old one?

I keep my life in balance. It is important to recognize and indulge your desires... without allowing them to control you.

I have heard of some of these desires - I have seen one drink a thing called alcohol. A poison to the body - is this what you speak of?

I do. [There's hidden nostalgia buried deep within the gentle layers of her voice, as she remembers when she found such simple delight in seeing the stitches come together rather than unraveling them.]

But, at the same time, it is like a double-edged sword. Certainly, there is joy in life, whether it is living out your own or seeing the birth of another. However, where there is day, there is night -- and there are unpleasant experiences to go hand-in-hand with every pleasant one.

[And she takes in a breath, connecting her mind with the present. There's a soft 'ah', realization distinct in its utterance. When she speaks again, warmly, one can easily tell that there's a smile on her lips.] Without getting too long-winded, there are a lot of ways to describe it, but I'm afraid it's difficult to explain in a way that's understandable on an emotional level. [An apologetic note softens her voice.]All the more so if you've never met another of your kind. However, if you'll permit me, I'll most certainly try. So can you tell me ( ... )

Unpleasant experiences? Perhaps. You have experienced these? [ Her unpleasant experience was being human. Ew. ]

It is no matter. I cannot understand the emotions of others, truly. It was curiousity which led me to inquire. Your assistance is appreciated.

[ Care for? ]

I am guardian over the creatures of the forest, and the young one I have. I am connected to my own kind, and I will see them safe as any other - but I cannot say there is any that I care for.

[ Once, what seems like far too long ago, but no more. ]

Yes, I have. Doesn't everyone? [There's the soft murmur of a chuckle.] Oh, but I suppose there are few that have lived their life without seeing a shred of pain or tragedy. But, in my experience, that is rare indeed.

[And it comes as a surprise to hear that there is no one the unicorn cares for -- however, it does not show when she speaks again.]

Hmm...in that case, have you ever felt sadness? If not, what of hurt, whether it be physical or mental?

I do not know if such is the case for everyone. I have had unpleasantries, though I do not dwell upon them.

Once, though I can no longer feel these things ... yet I remember. [ A pause. ]

Why do you ask such questions?

[... was that horse-- no, unicorn-- talking? Then again, she's seen Donald and Goofy. This wouldn't be weird.]

It's... hard to describe, I guess? But I think the best way to describe it is that we learn by growing.

[ Good thing that part wasn't voiced. Calling or comparing her to a horse would be the fastest way for her to ignore and leave a conversation. ]

What do you learn?

Reply

video; destinysembrace September 30 2011, 00:38:15 UTC
... you learn about other people, and along the way, about yourself, and what kind of person you are.

It's like when you grow up, you slowly realize more about things around you that you didn't notice before. When we're young, we usually only take notice of a few things that are important, and even if we did, we don't fully understand them.

Things were much simpler when we were kids.

Do you long for such times, when you were but children, then?
