[ The feed turns on to a peaceful forest clearing. Ahead, curled up in a ball is the spider-dog creation, dozing peacefully. Soon, the unicorn that guards him steps into view, her hew bowing to peer at the snoozing creature, and then continuing on, her steps light and silent ( Read more... )

Growing old is simply the body weakening and shutting down. Something to be feared. [ Although it's not a fear he knows, either. ] You enjoy watching that?

[ Oh hi there Mr. A.I :3 ]

It is a natural process of mortal life. What is there to fear of it?

[ Considering. ]

It is a fascinating process.

You do not fear oblivion? Maybe you've just been too careless to think of it.

I do not. I cannot fear what is merely part of life.

What do you mean, careless?

... Hmph. So even someone like you can possess wisdom. I'm surprised. [ Even if he's being snarky about it, he does agree with that answer. After all, humans running from nature and the inevitable is what had caused everything to happen - caused him to happen - in the first place. ] And I mean you've probably never considered the possibility of your own death.

[ Someone like her? :I Hmph. Snarky AI's. ]

Perhaps I have not. In my home, so long as I remained in my forest, I could not be killed. Yet I journeyed, and I could no longer think in such a fashion.

[ She very nearly did die, trapped in a human body. She cringed away from the thought. ]

[ ... that actually sounds familiar. He doesn't like that she's saying things he can actually agree with... ] How can a forest prevent you from dying?

It was less the forest itself, and more the magic that existed within the forest. Wherever a unicorn calls its home, so long as he or she does not wander from within its safe boundaries, they cannot be killed, or harmed.

[ and he breathes a disgruntled sigh. ] Of course. Magic. Always a convenient excuse.

It is not that, but a simple truth. [ Don't be jelly, Ash. It's not her fault she's awesome and has nice things. <3 ]

Perhaps for your worlds of science, and only those. Mine is a world of magic.

As if they're even comparable. I have no doubts that there's a real explanation for your parlor tricks.

I know little of the world of science. I cannot hardly say. Your desire to find other means of explanation is undoubtedly shared by others of your ilk, who are so firmly rooted within the world of science that magic is an impossibility.

If that is what comforts you, have it. I do not need to explain such things to any other. [ So there. ]

[ Continuing would be immature, but the issue will continue to bother him. He is, after all, a learning AI, designed to comprehend the world around him. Coming across something as incomprehensible as magic was like running into an insurmountable wall. He could wander from it, try to forget it was there, but in the end, the idea would still stand there in his circuits, an ever-present blockade.

Ash huffs. ]

Of course you don't. I shouldn't expect so much from a simple animal.

You presume much. You know nothing of what I am.

[ In anyone else that would probably sound angry or offended. In her, it's just a fact. Simple animal indeed! ]
