[Things are blurry at first when the feed comes on. Tipsy and blurry before the NV is settled on a rock and Syrena's face comes into view. She seems to be in...a rather curious mood as her fingers curl around the edge of a rock, golden tail barely visible in the water below.]

I found two interesting things.

[She reaches off screen then, only to ( Read more... )

[ Totally not bothered by the sight of rotting human feets. ]

I have seen humans wear such things before. It is to aid them in swimming.

That device you hold allows humans to illuminate the darkness.

[Oh. Cool. Syrena's never seen one of you before but. You're really pretty.]

You are very beautiful.

I see. Humans are not very good swimmers so it is understandable. I enjoy this 'flashlight' however.

[ And she knows it too! Her voice is amused nonetheless - she is of course, considerably warmer to fellow mythical creatures. Or not so mythical in her home. ]

My thanks, young one.

I fear that those creations did not aid this human. Perhaps he was foolish enough to attempt swimming at night and was beset upon by the tormented creatures that stalk this place.

The ... flash light? It is a useful device - I have seen many humans utilize it in the dark. Will you do the same?

Perhaps. [Oh well. Not her problem.]

I have been playing with it in the water. It makes the most darkest corners bright.

One, I think I'm gonna be sick. Please tell me you didn't start nibbling on those after you spooked the fish off.

[And then he shakes his head to rid himself of that mental image.]

A-Anyways, people use 'em to swim when they go diving. I've seen it a few times but it just looks like a huge pain in the neck to me. The other thing you got there? It's a flashlight. Humans use 'em to see in the dark.

I do not eat rotten flesh.

[Pause.] I see. I prefer the flashlight. It is more interesting. It's beautiful, I think.

You ever see ones with colored lights?

[The boy is mute, his lips don't move, it is the NV that gives him a voice,]

You found them... underwater? How deep can you swim?

[Well. That's a little weird. But, whatever.]

Yes. To the bottom.

There are many things, yes.

How can you speak without speaking?

I can see that you already have your answer for the second item. But if I may...regarding the first -- ah -- item you found, you can see nothing the least bit settling about it, yes?

[Voice] seaphonic September 27 2011, 00:11:33 UTC
I cannot.

Can you tell me something, then? [She speaks calmly on a faintly pleasant note, wary of making it sound like a demand.] This is the first time that I've encountered a mermaid, so I apologize if this should be obvious. But if you found another of your kin's tail -- so to speak -- what would be your first reaction?

[And this is all said gently, so as to avoid frightening her with such a mention.]

I would look for pirates. [After all, didn't Blackbeard try to pull that one on her with forcing her to stare at the dried out corpses of mermaids?]
