[Blonde. Grey eyes. To anyone familiar with the Malfoy family - Lucius in particular - it's clear that Draco's a relative. He's quiet for the first few moments, although his expression is somewhere between `bored` and `sullen`. He’s not, as one might expect, happy to be here. What can be seen of his surroundings show that he’s not in one of the ( Read more... )

[Geez... did Kazuma sound that horrid and rude when he first showed up? He certainly hopes not (answer: rude, yes, but not quite that pretentious sounding)), but he did go to the trouble of properly introducing himself, so Kazu figures he might as well make conversation while Draco is (somewhat) in the mood for it.

But the not-starter apartment background hasn't escaped the young Asian boy, and it along with the 'disadvantaged' comment is the first thing he decides to go after.]

Most of us are at a disadvantage when we first get here, regardless of who we were or where we were before.

[Pretension is the backbone of all ...good Englishmen, you know!

At the comment and the emphasis on most, Draco eyes Kazuma curiously for a few moments before replying. He's entirely used to being recognised - or his name, at any rate - and in a sense, with everything that's occurred, it's a relief to know that the majority of individuals won't hear it and know immediately that his father's in prison. Disadvantaged, therefore, isn't a word he'd ever think to use to describe either himself or his situation. It was only unfortunate his mother wasn't here.]

Most, but not all.

[Right. "Good" Englishmen.

There's a bit of an eyeroll and a tilt of his head as he explains his reasoning behind the statement.]

I'm just saying, welfare in the right situations isn't a bad thing. Drop a thirteen year old boy in a strange city he's never been to before, cut off from his family and friends, with no idea how to survive and he's not going to last more than a day without some kind of hand out.

[he speaks from experience, naturally.]

And where did I say it was a bad thing? I understand why they'd bother.

[He simply has no ability nor intention to relate.]

[ It maybe some time after Malfoy received this message . . . around late at night. She has an American accent, with the Deep South dialect. ]

Well, a good part of it ain't incompetence in their part. In fact, it's flat out greed.

[And subsequently, it's a little while before he replies.]

So I've heard.

Oh, okay, cool. Just don't be surprised if SERO or AGI approach you then? I'm sure you'll get more benefits out of the wazoo, but you'll get more exposed to the whole slavery and the human experimentation thing.

It's not the case all the time, but it happens.

[The distaste becomes more pronounced when she comments on slavery and experimentation, but he doesn't say anything. He'll side with whatever his father chooses, after all, so it's relatively pointless to pass comment or judgement at this point - not to mention the fact that he's quite happy to try and ignore anything that discomforts him.]

We'll just have to wait and see, won't we? - What about you, do you work with either of them? [Both his tone and expression reflect doubt - her phrasing seemed to imply otherwise.]

And yup! I've been here almost a year!

[With the exception of the non-wizarding individuals, Draco would be likely to agree - privately, of course - if his mother happened to be here as well. After all, the Dark Lord isn't here and with regards to the whole 'staying alive' thing, that happens to be a fantastic plus, considering his task.

He doesn't mention any of that, though, he's more distracted by the fact that Luca is quite obviously a small child.]

A year. You look about six.

Seven! I'll be eight in December. was six when I got here though.

[At that, it occurs to him that if it's September here, he missed his birthday, and that he has no idea how his birthday would even work here.]

Really. [A beat.] And you like it here?

Hmm... What kind of a name is Draco, anyway? Do you have a dragon?

[SCOWL. Why do people have issues with his name. It's a fantastic name.]

No, I don't.

It's the name my parents considered suitable. [He lifts his chin slightly, studying her for a moment.] That is the point of names.

[.....no. Of all the-- Anyone but a Malfoy. Even if he hadn't announced himself at the end--and of course he did, that instinct was nearly bred into him--it would be obvious, written in that arrogant face.]

Thanks for telling us your surname, now I really want to be friends. Only can I make a suggestion? Why don't you turn around and go home, since you've obviously worked out how.

[Timelines don't matter, affiliations don't matter (not that they aren't always the same old affiliations, handed down): a Malfoy is a Malfoy.]

[His father had mentioned Sirius was here, had pointed him out, mentioned that he was younger than he 'ought' to be, but that doesn't change the fact that hearing a dead man's voice over the NV is more than a little disconcerting.]

I guess you're right at home here, aren't you, Black? With imprisonment, I mean.

[There's a split-second pause. On his end, Sirius stares hard at his NV, mind racing to try to catch up. Prison. Being confronted with it so directly--

Right. The future. If anything, now, he loads more hostility into his voice.]

I'd just about take prison at this point, given the current company. But don't worry, I'd have them hold a cell for you, just in case, should you ever choose to break the family tradition of letting others take blame for you.

Which one are you. Or when are you, or whatever.

[A moment of hesitation, and a note of smugness enters his tone.] 1996. And I'd be careful with my assumptions if I were you - they're going to get you in trouble one of these days.
