Asylum Log VII; [Video] Sept. 13th. Evening.

[Strangely, for those who may have been watching the feed is at first positively blank. Black, with a hint of subtle light, and the sound muffled-as though a cloth or some sort of cover had been carefully pressed over it in order to keep the contraption concealed for some unknown, secretive purpose.

A faraway voice can be heard, if slightly off in ( Read more... )

Ah- [He's really fighting the urge to snigger, because somehow they've managed to make even their unveiling of portable electronics quaintly antiquated in fashion.

That, and John is merrier on his Port than Daedalus has been in some time (since his own birthday, maybe, last year, or some half-forgotten night or carousing with Franz).

In any case, he can't really hold the lack of discretion against his fellow doctor without appearing something of a hypocrite, so instead Dr. Yumeno gives a shrewd sort of smile]

Welcome to the modern age, and at a very respectable age yourself, doctor! Congratulations, and a very happy birthday to you.

[Interestingly the Victorian era was full of these so-called "antiquated" devices, as inventions of all sorts were appearing all the time. You'd have to admit they are ingenious in their own right! It takes skill to even construct such things, let alone stylize them in a very particular fashion. Abraham had proved himself quite capable of reverse-engineering one for John, as he had done with his own.

He has, at this point, perhaps indulged in a hearty amount of Port, but it would seem he's holding it well and is able to maintain his composure if but for the very slight hint of intoxication in his speech. Needless to say this is rather awkward, but he'll go along with the well wishes, at any rate.]

Erm..Thank you.

I didn't realize you were old as Raul!

[Who treated thirty like a breath away from death, probably because he was a Chief of Security, and in Romdeau that was a position which made habit of keeping a short expiration date.]

I didn't realise it, either!

[There's a soft chortle on his end for a moment before he's able to suppress it, the beverage and euphoric atmosphere making him a little more giddy than usual.]

...Who's this Raul fellow again?

[ Have another older guy grinning right back, lifting a beer can in jubilation-- he isn't as far gone as these two but still in a good mood, and boy, does it look like they're having fun! ]

Your birthday, huh? A toast! Happy birthday!

[Yes, it's a happy moment for the Winther Lake manor household, which is a great change from past months. A nice counter to all the horrors going on in the news and in the Port on a daily basis, at any rate. It was about time the straight-laced doctor had a little fun in his life to distract him from his woes.

He's feeling a little more than warm at this point so he gives a genial smile at the appearance of a stranger, and takes a sip of his glass in response to the toast. He's earned a little merriment, after all!]

Thank you kindly, good sir.

[ He smiles back and sips from his can, not as classy as these guys' drinks but that doesn't make it any less of a hearty toast. It's definitely a nice change from the woe that seems to take the network by storm at times. ]

You'n'your buddy look like you're having a great time! And let me say, I'm liking the look of that laptop you got there. It's got a great feel to it!

[He can't help but feel a swell of pride for the handiwork of his dear companion and mentor, and smiles even wider still! Oh, you good, good soul for praising what other men only laugh and jeer at!]

Indeed I'd rather think we are!

I admit I'm rather pleased with it myself. My Professor has put his all into its making I am most certain.

He's as much a doctor as he is scientist! If I could make such technological marvels then I should think I'd be able to outdo Tesla himself.

[Here, he laughs.]

You seem a jovial sort. Might I have your name?

Happy birthday, Dr. Seward! It looks like you're having fun. [ She grins, a little; she doesn't know if Seward remembers her, but it seems a little awkward to thank him for his helpfulness in getting information on Frankie now. ]

Oh! Thank you, Miss Katuragi. My Professor and my dear friend Mister Dornez have been taking it upon themselves to entertain me.

[Among other things. They'd taken it upon themselves to give him a jolly good evening, at any rate. SO far it was working most splendidly!

He hadn't seen her in person, but while he doesn't recognize her face he hadn't forgotten her voice, though they hadn't associated in a while since then.]

I hope all has been well with you.

Things have been a little busy, but it's nothing we can't handle. [ She seems pretty confident about that much, at least. ]

I didn't realize you and Mr. Dornez were friends. [ She doesn't know much about the boy except for name, of course, but she's pleased nonetheless. Small world after all. ]

Yes, yes we are indeed.

Someone's happy. [To be honest she wasn't sure if Seward would remember her either, but hey, it didn't mean Rochelle couldn't say hi to the guy.] Long time no see, doc. Happy birthday!

I am. [It's almost frightening, really.]

Oh...Miss Rochelle. I haven't seen you-

[He stops short, and leans in until the lens seems almost to be fish-bowled, clearly surprised.]

Your skin! It's ebony...It's rather lovely, actually.

[He sighs, and sits back. He's probably never even seen a negress, before. At least he wasn't too prone to mingling with the lower classes, much less those outside of his ethnic group. Victorians were picky about who they associated with, okay? :(]

[Rochelle grinned and opened her mouth to say something, until he suddenly looked like a deer in the headlights on her screen. She blinked and held her own NV farther away from her, briefly, as if he was gonna come out of the video and, I dunno, eat her.

It did get her to raise an eyebrow, though.]

Uh, yeah. I am. Suprise?

[But then again he's also traveled to many places, so the conventional English intolerance doesn't exactly apply.

She's still a lady, so it's not like he's going to judge her on the basis of skin colour. He realises he's probably being rude so he's making an effort to control any um...pointed reactions. And ends up sitting a bit back from the computer screen, adjusting it accordingly.]

My apologises, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. Where did you say you were from, exactly?

[He can't help but be mildly fascinated. There was an exotic sort of beauty to those with darker skin tones.]

Thank you, Miss Aran.

[Oh dear. He'll keep himself nice and tame for her, as she's still his patient after all! He has to be somewhat proper...But that's Seward for you. "Prim", as Yumeno liked to paint him.]

Have you slept any better?

Getting there. It's like I said, it comes and goes in waves most times.

What's on the list of festivities for tonight? Tying one on?

[It concerns him. He still hasn't gotten a complete diagnosis, but hopefully they'd continue to work on that.]

Erm..Ah. Miss Aran. My Professor, my young companion Walter Dornez, and I have been celebrating! Heartily.

[(If that's none-too-obvious by the way he sounds and looks. A mild way to put it, at least.)He does seem a little flustered, but that was probably because he's a little hesitant to say what's been going on in front of one of his patients but it was already pretty out in the open.]

Tying one on..?

[The slang was from the mid-1900's, so he's unfamiliar.]
