voice; (forward dated to the early afternoon)

[It's a little after three when this post goes up. Someone's spent the day figuring out her new NV and doing a good sweep of the network. Her results are, to say the least, surprising: not only are several people from her "world" here, but so is Batman himself. It's a precarious situation, one she's none too eager to jump right in. This isn't home ( Read more... )

[ That- is a very familiar voice. A very familiar face. Early afternoon- her calm says that she arrived in the morning. Bruce should have stayed longer at the diamond, shouldn't he? But--

No, no use overthinking. His eyes narrow slightly, fingers hovering over the keys- then he types: ]

[ It is Bruce Wayne who suddenly rushes out of the police station, but it is not the same man who arrives at her coffeeshop. Instead, it is a man who slouches over, dressed in something clothes that, if one is polite, is called bohemian, and if one is not, simply 'terrible'. A brightly-printed shirt, a straw hat, an oversized horn-rimmed glasses a couple of decades out of date.

Two of his children have already been linked to the Bruce Wayne name officially. This is a small island, and the Newcomers an even smaller community. There are already too many who have figured out who he is - Re-l, Sherlock, Claude Faustus, Chuck Shurley, Spike. Far too many, and he is not feeding them clues- not when SERO has a bounty on his head.

He slouches over to Cassandra's table, pulling out a chair noisily and flip-flopped his way to drape on the chair. Then, he pulled his glasses down, tilts his shoulders in a way only she will recognize, and drawls: ]

Haven't seen you in a while.

It's NOTHING like my home.

[...Is that a talking pony? Cassandra stares at her for a moment. (Right... Joker likes them. Weird.)]

What's your home like?

NO huge buildings, lots more forest, no hewmans... and that's just Ponyville. I used to live in Cloudsdale where there wasn't even any ground!

No...hewmans?

[The pronunciation feels odd on her tongue.]

You can fly?

Different is really a matter of perspective, though, isn't it? Even similar is a matter of opinion. It reminds me of home, but it might be the same for someone from Alcatraz, and both for entirely different reasons.

[...Huh. She knows it's Clark, but it's still an odd sight to see. He's so young.]

How do you mean?

[Adjusting his glasses.]

Some people describe it as a prison; after all we can't leave. Some people come from places where it isn't safe to go out at night, or worlds with superheroes flying around it. I'm grateful for the sights and sounds of the city, at least during the day.

Why does it remind you of home?

The sights, the sounds... The people.

[Both with powers and those who don't publicly show them. She can see it, anyway, and it's like walking among the Justice League again, or being with the Outsiders. It's so inherently familiar.

She doesn't like how Newcomers are treated, though. Even people who don't say anything are still thinking it, showing lines of tension in their shoulders and in their faces. They're apprehensive. They've been taught not to like Newcomers.

She's not used to that.]

There are superheroes here? [As if she didn't know.]

[ He's yet to meet Cassandra, but he has heard of her. He's heard of her skills, her success with the League of Assassins (something that hit home), and how she led the Outsiders. What he hasn't heard, however, was how she sounded like.

So as far as Damian was concerned, this was simply another person on the network with a particularly plain post. ]

It looks like home now. [ It was different when the Darkness struck. He's a new arrival himself, but he's already had the luxury of experiencing that. ]

[It's a voice she knows she should recognize in one way or another, but the name escapes her. The haughtiness of the tone isn't anything new; she's spoken with plenty of people today with the same attitude towards a Newcomer.

It doesn't strike her as odd but it does bother her that it seems familiar.]

"Now?"

It's different at night. [ He's not a talker, so he almost leaves it like that, but -- he is talking to a civilian, right? Though something awkward and new, he does feel a responsibility to impart some sort of warning. ]

You should stay inside and not wander around.

Oh. They told me that.

[She doesn't say she'll stay in. She doesn't make promises. Instead, she turns another question right back at him to keep him talking until she knows for sure...]

You were out there. What was it like?

It's still not London-tier tea.

The flavor is better, too. England has made an art out of tea-making.

Oh.

[Not much of a talker, huh? But it makes her wish she had gone there once or twice.]

What's your favorite?
