[When the feed first starts anybody watching would be sure they were looking into a local armory. Guns of various sizes and calibers, single and double action, short and long range, stretch across the walls and rest in very nicely put together glass display counters for people to view the various options. [...oh, you get video for this. With Shinji gone, Kimihiko is well aware of his own mortality in this place. He looks strained, but friendly. The mask is firmly in place.]

So... if someone was a complete novice, would you be able to teach them?

[Ah! The first interested customer! Elena would jump for joy if she wasn't on duty. Instead she's nodding with a friendly smile.]

Absolutely. It would take a lot of time and at least 1500 rounds shot through whichever firearm you choose to use, but that's how it is with any new shooter.

[He manages a smile at that.]

I'm going to drop by after work to check it out. You can't be too careful in this place, and the recent failures in darkness proofing that have been in the news are evidence that it's dangerous to just get complacent.

I'd like to learn.

Come by whenever you'd like, I've got plenty in stock for you to look and and choose from.

[Her smile wavers at the mention of the recent troubles of the city.]

I have to admit that my timing couldn't have been better - unless I had gotten it opened before. Its terrible to think that people may not have been able to protect themselves.

I'll be more than happy to teach you everything you'll need to know.

[...oh god, it really was Heaven. Except if it were Heaven, he was in the wrong place. This was a perfect distraction from his bitter and unhappy mind.

Enjoy the sight of the shirtless man lying on the couch with a bright pink - yes, bright pink - kitten curled up on his chest. It is tiny and weak but it looks comfortable. With his record, he doubts he can buy anything, but...]

I'll at least be visiting. I didn't realise you knew so much about guns.

[Well now, that was a face and voice that was familiar - she could still hear his threatening warning in her ears - but the rest was....not.

If she was enjoying the view - Which any hot-blooded woman would - it didn't show. Though her eyes did light up at the sight of the kitten.]

You would be very welcome. A solider like you should find at least something to catch your interest. [Her head tilts a little with a slight grin forming.] You wouldn't guess it by looking at me, I know. But I love guns, I love figuring out how they work and how even the slightest change impacts the velocity and trajectory of a bullet.

[He raised an eyebrow at that, interest flickering in his eyes. The kitten squirmed and settled, cuddling a little, and he reached a hand down to gently pet it.]

I'm impressed, Miss. You're more interesting than I thought.

[And with that ambiguous statement...]

Where is your shop? You forgot to mention that part.

[Have a matching eyebrow lift before she is, once again, too easily distracted by the kitten. The sheer fact that it was small and cute was one thing. But bright pink? That brought on so many unasked questions.]

I'm very flattered, sir. You could say I like to keep some of my cards close to the chest.

[Oh, right. The shop's location.]

Ah, no, I didn't. I'm located in Sector 8. I didn't exactly want a large mob overtaking my store on the first day.

I hope to visit after a paycheck or three. How do background checks work for Newcomers, and what are the local carry laws?

Come by whenever you'd like, even before then, to take a look at what I've got in stock.

[Well now, here's a lady who knows what she's talking about. Elena's interest in piqued.]

The city itself is one of the more lax I've ever seen. Since the history of the Newcomers prior to their arrival to the city cannot be tracked, I can only go off what is in their records. So if a Newcomer has been arrested, that will show up. Other than that, they're free to obtain whatever they'd like.

As for the carry laws, again, the port seems very lax. You can conceal carry, with a permit, and open carry is frowned upon. Firearms are prohibited in all government and federally owned and operated buildings, such as schools, the DMV, and local courthouse. Firearms are also prohibited in local churches and mosques, unless the leader of that facility deems otherwise.

Can property owners forbid carry? Do government buildings have facilities to store guns carried by visitors?

As to visiting, would now be good? My job starts Monday, and it's mornings and afternoons, so visiting at a time you're still open will become more difficult.

Also, where are you?

As long as there is a visible sign at the beginning of the property that declares that the owner forbids carry, they can. As for the government buildings, I don't know. I leave that up to the city to manage.

[She's nodding with a grin.]

Of course, I'll be here all day today. I'm located in Sector 8. I'll send you the coordinates to you in a text.

[OOC: Action Tag works for me!]

... What exactly's included in the background check, ma'am?

Reply

Voice provenworth August 19 2011, 21:29:59 UTC
The check includes criminal history, confirmation that the person apply is not a fugitive of justice, and that they have no been convicted for the use or possession of a controlled substance. It also checks to see if the person has been adjudicated mental defective or involuntarily committed to a mental institution or incompetent.

How're you supposed to do a background check on a buncha newcomers, Miss? Seems a bit impossible to me.

provenworth August 19 2011, 21:32:20 UTC
Not entirely impossible, though some may consider it a loophole. The agreement was reached that since the history of the Newcomers prior to their arrival to the city cannot be tracked, I can only go off what is in the Port's records. So if a Newcomer has been arrested, that will show up. Other than that, they're free to obtain whatever they'd like.
