[See Zoey. See Zoey looking at shelves upon shelves of different kind of wines. With a blank look on her face.]

You know... We drank wine at the House of Night, it had blood in it but that's not the point. I've was in the kitchens a bunch of times but... I never noticed the wines or what kind they were and so I never thought about how many different ( Read more... )

No, they don't. Francis could explain it better than I - but we have a decent selection.

I didn't want to get into one that someone might be saving. So I thought I'd find one.

Don't worry about it. The stuff we are saving we keep locked up.

Cute? What is?

The fact that you consider them to be the same.

I don't know anything about wine, how am I supposed to know they don't?

There are hundred of red wines. Some are similar to each other and it takes practice or super-taste to distinguish them; others are very different.

Do they have wine tastings here? Simple ones normally aren't exorbitant - but I don't know how the pricing works here. (A wine tasting, for those unfamiliar, is just what it sounds like: small tastes of a variety of wines, normally with someone experienced describing the wines. One needs a large number of people to hold them economically, since it's best to finish a bottle promptly once you've opened it.)

My senses have all gotten pretty sharp since I was Marked but I'm still a fledgling. This is just the start.

They might, I can ask around.

Check wine importers and cultural centers. I don't see any wineries listed, so that approach is out. But it's almost as much in the importers' best interests to run tastings as it is wineries' best interests, and importers would offer a variety of wines, not just the winery's own vintages.

I'll have to do that while I'm still out. Hopefully I'll find some good news.

[It's the "blood in it" part which gives him pause, but he finally decides to tackle it anyway]

Well, mind you, my- Franz is much better at this than me, but-

What are you looking to pair it with?

Well, during our rituals back home, we make an offering to Nyx of different fruits and vegetables and everything. And that includes an offering of wine with blood in it.

It's also how a lot of Vamps prefer to drink blood, it's makes the idea of it more bearable than just... drinking it like Capri Sun.

To...Nyx? [Daedalus sounds genuinely puzzled- offerings, rituals? He'd known the sanguarian lifestyle involved blood consumption, but...offertories? It was religious?] The greek goddess of night?

[And then, a bit dry with a shudder at the sound of that comparison-] ...Out of one's veins, you mean.

That's right. She's sort of our mother, where I come from.

[Zoey shakes her head, and even goes a little pale.] No, we can't do that. Drinking like that, it can be a very... pleasurable experience, for both the human and the Vamp. But we risk Imprinting with them and that's not healthy for either.

[He can't help himself here. It's sort of his..."thing".]

No. In fact it does not. In much the same way cheeses have similarity but do not taste alike, wines are much the same. The flavour and aroma make all the difference, you know.

[His tastes in wine are...quite exceptional.]

Might I ask as to the occasion?

It was never really my thing back at the House of Night. I was mostly just focused on... [Saving the world, killing immortals-] Studying.

[Zoey smiles and nods.]

Sure. I want to have it handy for the next Full Moon Ritual, as part of my offering to Nyx.

It's also a little selfish. I don't like drinking blood, this makes it easier.

[Telling a complete stranger all the juicy little details? Tut, tut. Either she was incredibly lacking in intelligence or simply too trusting. Sounded like someone was into pagan rituals or some sort of blood fetishism if he didn't know better. ]

Is...that so? You might enjoy something medium-bodied and sweeter then.

[More of a matter of there being nothing to hide. In her world, plenty of people know about Vampyre's rituals and beliefs.]

How do I tell what kind is sweet?
