Robotic armor and the cat problems in the news, you would think this city doesn't have too many big problems. [She pauses, fingers tapping against the wooden kitchen table she's sitting at.]Or maybe the problem is that the big problems are talked about once, and then almost forgotten by the next day. I've been going through the news over the past ( Read more... )

I haven't gained anything new since coming here. Although there was that week that the Core malfunctioned but other than that, same powers from back home.

The Core malfunctioned? What happened during then?

Are you certain that's all right?

I wouldn't have offered if it wasn't okay.

The way the 'big news' happens in this city so often? I think people are used to it. Hell if I can talk, though, I don't know how I can be so calm about the shit that happens here either.

And answering your question... for me, I would be gaining a whole lot of new. Super powers only exist in the movies where I come from. Then again, so did zombies...

It all seems just a little bit fantastic. You don't see the Times posting about blood colored rain and then move on to robotic wheelchairs.

That's my issue; powers like that are only what I've seen in movies or read in books, and they usually aren't handed out so willy-nilly to everyone who shows up.

We got dumped in a magic island in Canada. I'm with you, trust me, but... I think it's a luxury that anything makes sense in this city.

Not even Canada, if everything is to believe. At least, not a Canada I know of. [Pauses.]

Too much to hope for then, isn't it.

Well, I got excited when I heard that you might get powers. I'm just glad the ones I got weren't blessed with suck, you know? Having super-strength saves time from having to deal with the groceries.

But what if you had gotten powers that were pretty bad? It wouldn't be as good then, would it? Or would just having powers be something fun no matter what it was?

I haven't really thought of it that way. Granted I did destroy a lot of stuff when my own powers started to show, and the pain was just god-awful, so . . . I dunno.

But what I do know is that while this island is a mess it can be a lot worse. While the powers I got gave me some kind of edge, I'll still have to adapt if it's the opposite.

I didn't think of it as powers giving someone an edge. [She frowns.] So really, it's more... if you don't have powers, you might have more problems.

It's really only auto mechanics that should be worried about him, right? The cat problem could have been a widespread and serious health concern.

And the Core didn't give us any other opt-in-or-outs, so why would 'powers' be any different?

Who really knows? What if he decides to go rob a bank, that puts more people's lives in danger. Then you have to ask yourself what the value of the life of someone who's in a bank robbery versus someone who was dealing with the cat problem.

Most places you travel to, whether you want to or not, don't just hand out powers like it's a commonplace thing.

Banks, I would hope, have adequate security measures in place- to deal even with robotic wheelchairs.

It's...some sort of mutation, I suspect. A change, rather than- Oh, I don't know. This is the sort of thing you'd be better off asking SERO researchers about.

If they can't deal with people coming in with guns, I doubt they can with robotic wheelchairs.

Then the Core takes out genetic code and starts changing it? That doesn't make me feel any better, doctor.
