[ there's a thud and rustle of pages, some scuffling, the familiar sound of darkness monsters-- and then a horrific, bloodthirsty roar, followed quickly by the shrieking of monsters--

and crunch. something spatters, squishes, cracks and breaks apart.

a voice, low and old and inhuman, a huge voice, echoing all around. ]

[This is Jack, headed to the kitchen for a nice hot cup of tea.

Sneaking it, actually, since he hadn't eaten yet and was loathe to encounter Claude or one of the other servants tonight. The drunken escapade hasn't improved his mood one bit.]

[In retrospect, he'd realise how insane it was to be able to recognise the Chain by roar.

Right now, though, he stops dead in his tracks, staring into his NV. His pocketwatch feels heavy in his hand.]

[His heart stops when he sees his eye. The Chain, the voice, the eyes are all his, but the face is not. The body is not. He's about ten years too young and hair is three inches too long but Jack still stares like an idiot.]

[And the name he calls is so much more different. He breathes staccato over the open line and leans against the nearest window, knees giving way.

His seals were nearing the end of their lives. He was going to fail. Glen had already been reborn, and Vincent, oh god, Vincent-]

.. You've clearly never seen a clown before if you think this is flamboyant.

I'll be certain to tell Jabberwock that his feathers are out of style.

[Tove squealing and running at light speed around their new house is more than enough to alert Fang of some disturbance on the NV. Checking it only ends up with him dropping it in shock.

He actually has to replay that scene over and over just to confirm it for himself (even though Tove is screaming the chain’s name in his ear) before letting it focus on Leo.

Vincent said that he would recognize the new lord by his eyes - the dark eyes that reflected the lights of the Abyss…

It’s when the young man calls for his attendant that Fang snaps back to reality, remembering the plan discussed with Vincent himself.

He needs to get Leo away to somewhere safe; Tove’s already out the door to bound as fast as the little chain can for the baseball diamond (even if Leo may have already moved from there). Donning his red cloak first, Fang connects their feed to show his face, creased with concern.]

My Lord… Where are you?

[ the sight of fang startles him, leaves something like grief welling up in his throat, tightening his chest. this is a member of his family that he never expected to see again. fang is supposed to be dead, isn't he? truly dead. the mad hatter had seen to that.

so-- how?

hesitantly, he brings his own video feed up, eyes wide and expression pained before he hides it away beneath the calm he's learned over the years. ]

.. Fang. I-- [ a glance up as jabberwock passes overhead, a wing dipping so low it almost brushes leo's hair. ] Not far from that field. A few streets over. .. You'll see Jabberwock. [ because there's no doubt that fang is coming for him. ]

[His jaw tightens at the look Leo gives him before hiding behind the mask. Concern boils and wells up like never before, almost like when Lily had first disappeared; gone home.

But the man gives the young Baskerville a quick nod.] Understood. Tove will be there before me.

[He turns off the feed just as he's out the door, sword in hand. The urgency of the mission gives him speed as he runs for the field.

Jabberwock's wings are spotted to give him Leo's location; he slays a Darkness monster with one sweep of his blade just after rounding the corner to see the chain and his new master. Tove will have arrived a few minutes before Fang, killing smaller monsters that had evaded Jabberwock's catching claws.]

[ the sight of tove arriving had cheered him considerably, inexplicably fond of the hyperactive little chain-- but he freezes when he sees fang. for a moment, he can't move, can't breath.. but then he shakes his head, throwing off the grief. if fang is dead there, he's alive here, and that's what matters.

he tucks his book away, offering a smile up to the older man as jabberwock swoops by in greeting. ]

I'm glad to see you again. Fang-- Tove--

[Kimihiko's voice is awed, fascinated. That voice, that eye - it was unnatural and remarkable.]

.. Hm? [ a beat. ] That was Jabberwock.

Jabberwork...? [Calm returns slowly, composure setting back in place.] What is it?

He's one of my Chains. Others might call him a monster, but I think he's lovely.

[ wind sounds above the nv as jabberwock wings by overhead, and leo breathes out a laugh. ]

[ well, well, so gilbert is here, too. (of course he is.) but from the sound of his voice.. perhaps not the same gilbert he'd just left behind.

even without the video on, one can hear the smile in his voice. ]

Hello, Gilbert. You sound a bit lost, are you quite all right?

[ in the background, jabberwock laughs. ]

[ he sounds entirely too cheerful to be a new arrival in a strange world surrounded by monsters. ] I hope you've been taking care of Raven for me? Jabberwock and I miss he and his brothers.
