[This time, opening the video feed, Haruhi doesn't look incredibly excited, as before. Her eyes are still glimmering, but post-talent show and beach party, she's a little more pensive, and she sounds rather like a normal girl of her age.]Totally weird news about those students on the beach, huh? This whole island is a big closed circle, you know. ( Read more... )

Dramatic rule number sixty doesn't sound nearly so dramatic as it could be.

It's not the rules themselves that are dramatic! The rules deal with situations that follow the dramatic rules. Other dramatic rules include skipping over the boring parts, the order of death in a horror situation, and so on!

[ At least she's been upgraded from "bureacratic drudge." However, she's got a siiiinking feeling about this. ]

I'm glad you have fun. But what kind of adventure did you have in mind, exactly?

[ And that second question makes her wary. ] It's nothing very special, but why do you want to know?

An exploratory trip and/or beach adventure on the haunted island, of course! Get to the bottom of the deaths and exorcise those ghosts! Also, possibly find mermaids.

[That sounded like an evasion!] I just want to know if it's something useful for investigation!

I'm not so sure that's a good idea. The Pull might be pretty strong out there, you know?

[ ... ] I make other people's powers stronger, more or less. I guess it has its uses, but I'm not very good at it.

That's something to just push through, okay? Of course some things will make the mystery hard; it wouldn't be a worthy adventure otherwise! Anyway, if people could build a lighthouse there, it can't be all that bad. We'll bring medicine or something!

--...Hey! Then you need to definitely try using that on me! I have no idea what my powers are, and it's been more than a month!

[OH GOD]

Dramatic rule sixty, huh?

What are the others?

There's three hundred and eighty-two of them! I can't list them all right now. Number fifty-nine is that a gun on the mantelpiece at the beginning always has to kill someone and turn out to be a priceless antique by the end!

[ so, just a kid who's read too many detective novels. Bernkastel very much doubts she can solve something like the Rokkenjima Serial Murders with those "rules." Not even that worthless piece was as fanciful as her.

Is she as pathetic though...? ]

Are all of them required to be present in every mystery?

Huh? No, that's silly! They're guidelines as to how to create a satisfying situation, that's all.
