As some of you have seen already on the newsfeed, after months of work, Newcomers are now eligible to apply for citizenship here in Siren's Port. I know that many of you do not feel that citizenship is needed, but there are many things that can be gained by having citizenship, such as the right to vote for whatever official you may want in the ( Read more... )

It's the last day of the bake sale, so I'll have the time to be there. [ And no small relief, at that. ] It started with a riot... let's hope it doesn't end the same way.

We'll have everything set up. How many people are we expecting?

That's good, then. Food is always a draw no matter what. If any rioting happens, we have contingency plans just in case.

I would like to say expect every Newcomer in the Port. So expect them all. What is our holding capacity?

In the multipurpose hall? [ She pauses to mentally calculate the floor space, for a moment-- ]

I'd say it could hold about two hundred to three hundred people, depending on the number of chairs and benches we can put in. The far wall should be easy enough to project onto, if there's going to be a need for it.

Are we going to be using any of the offices upstairs?

That's the only place that can fit everyone, it'll do well.

We are going to be using the upstairs boardroom for people who... have a difficult time with crowds. They will need to be set up as well.

Are minors exempt?

No; this is about citizenship. Minors are encouraged. As if everyone in your household, Alois Trancy.

Well I supposed since you mentioned it helps for voting and all...

Honestly, I'm not sure how it'll go over.

A few hours of their time for one day, then taking a simple test, is not a hardship.

What is a hardship is if they confiscate your home and kick you out of it because you are not a citizen of Siren's Port, and as such, you d not hold claim to any land on the island.

I'll try to be there. I'll bring the boys. [It's flat, tired, almost hollow.]

Thank you. I realize this is a difficult time, but it is much appreciated.

Unfortunately personal issues will need to be set to the side until this is over.

Why should I become a citizen?

[he's not trying to be antagonistic. he just wants to know.]

Better wages, along with a better pick of jobs, for one. Being able to buy a home without fear of persecution is another. Also the ability to vote in the next election, which is at the end of the month.

And it doesn't cost a thing but a few hours of your time for one day.

... Hm.

[he considers saying he's got a good job with decent wages, but it's... not something he would choose if he'd had a better pick.]

All right. Thank you.

Your people have worked hard on this. I'm impressed. We all owe your organization a debt of gratitude.

... I'm not fond of crowds, but I will be there. The ability to vote is, perhaps, the most important. Depending on who gains power, the next governor could revoke every Newcomer's citizenship. Or worse.

It's a large victory on our part, and I can only say that it was a group effort entirely.

Exactly. We already have two people who have the backing of each company, and a few who claim to be Neutral. The more Newcomers that can vote, the better.

I know many of the natives don't like it, but... maybe this will show some of them we actually care about what happens with this city as well. People are people- whether Newcomer or Native.

And I believe I owe you an apology as well. I composed myself poorly the last time we spoke, and it was grossly unfair of me.

That is what I am hoping for, yes. This should even out the legal status between us, but also show them that this is as much our city as it is theirs. And we want it to do well, not just for Newcomers, but for everyone who lives here. That is what the NPP stands for, and will do whatever to protect.

There is really no need, but apology accepted. I may have conducted myself poorly as well in our last discussion, and I am... sorry, for that. I believe everyone was confused as to what was really going on at the time.
