[ A "witch," she says...? She seems, like others, oddly calm about her arrival here. However, to answer her question-- ]

I am sorry, my lady, but there is no such host to be found in the city. If there is, there are none here who know its name.

[ an unusual-looking being... someone's servant...? ]

I see. Well, since those scientists weren't very helpful, what can you tell me about "the Core"?

It is considered to be the origin of the force which has brought us here, commonly referred to as the Pull. Those who attempt to leave the island or go beyond the Pull's reach are often subject to unpleasant side effects. It is also subject to experiencing glitches which affect many of the city's inhabitants.

[ Despite his nonhuman appearance, he's wearing what is identifiably a police uniform, and his words are politely spoken. ] Currently, the Core is under the supervision of SERO-- the scientists you met upon your arrival. They are conducting research on the Core itself.

Are they going to share their findings?

[ not that she expects them to, from what she's seen of the secrecy in their every movement, the brusque replies she got whenever she asked about it... well, she wouldn't have it any other way. There's nothing exciting about being handed the truth, compared to ripping it out. ]

[having never been able to really grill a witch before without getting gutted, someone's a little excited.]

What animal do you base your spells on?

[ grill this one too much, he might get gutted. The question is slightly amusing though, if only because no one's ever asked her something like that before. But, that doesn't mean she'll answer it dutifully. ]

Small, cute kittens that go "nyaa, nyaa."

You seem to assume there's such a thing as fate. There's always room to remould your situation, your life- "fate" is just an easy scapegoat for those too lazy or useless to try.

And, if despite all your efforts, you can't change that situation? Certainly, if you have enough strength, you can smash fate into little pieces. But, it still won't change the fact that it definitely exists.

Then, to put it frankly, somewhere along the lines you simply didn't work hard enough. And, well... where's the point in fate existing if it can be bypassed at all?

No matter how much they try, most humans can't alter the outcomes of their lives - so "fate" exists for them. There isn't a point to it.
