[This is damned strange. He's seen Grimmjow's NV post, knows he'd been in the hospital. It isn't unbelievable that he has "escaped" from there, but there's still a problem with that theory.

[Namely, that Grimmjow is currently powerless. And yet Hitsugaya can still sense that very distinctive reiatsu wandering about the city. It bears investigation.

[He draws his blade merely as a precaution. His own power is slipping out of his control at times, but it's easier to direct with Hyourinmaru as a focus. But when he catches sight of the reiatsu's source, he can't help but lower the blade to a less defensive position. He recognizes this girl. All that manages to come out of his mouth is a very dry:]

[The fact that he appeared at all is enough to spook her. Even though she almost... sensed him? She still starts when she hears his voice. She's got her own sword still wrapped up in cloth and shoved down the back of her acolyte uniform (it looks ridiculous, to be honest)]

[At the sound of his voice, she whirls around, jumps about a foot in the air, and SCREAMS. In the back of the mind she recognizes him as someone she's spoken to before, but right now she's startled and instinctively snapping into a defensive position herself]

[Considering who this is, he probably should have been braced for this type of reaction. He isn't. That scream is loud as hell and he instinctively flinches and grits his teeth at the volume.] Quiet.

[He'd noted the sword on her back, and can't help thinking that it's stupid to have it shoved under her clothes like that. Wearing one's sword on one's back isn't weird -- he'd be the last person to think that -- but under their clothes? Who does that?]

The reiatsu you're giving off. [He can't say it's hers, because it isn't. And though he notes the defensive posture, and his hand instinctively tightens on the hilt, he doesn't lift his weapon.]

[She does stop screaming, for the moment.]

[And while Hitsugaya's tightening his hold on his sword, Maya backs up, keeping his distance. Her position shifts - as if she's going to bolt. (Truth be told, that's exactly what she wants to do)

[Despite the lack of his powers, Liquid is reckless as always. He's been out for a while now, his injuries from the Snake fight all bandaged up. Even with his experience fighting the Darkness monsters however, even he is prone to being overwhelmed at times. This is one of those times. Already he's bleeding rather badly, claw marks tearing his skin harshly. Running out of ammunition was a bad move; he'd expected to have more but he hadn't compensated for the bullets he'd wasted on Re-L Mayer. The pain he'd been in that night had distracted him too much. Above his head, the storm clouds are almost black. He's stubborn enough to bear it, however; too stubborn to take the step to run.]

[Maya's fleeing at a speed that even alarms herself (although she had to admit it was kind of cool) when something catches her attention. She screeches to a halt, nearly falling over (is she ever going to get used to this? How did he do it, anyway?)]

[But no - there's something going on. She takes the situation in instantly. Somebody being attacked by monsters - no, Liquid]

[The unexpected squeakiness of the voice distracts him for a moment - does he know it? - before one of the monsters gets a hit in, tearing into his thigh. He snarls and kicks it off, leaping back to place at least a bit more distance between them. Only then does he place the voice. Odd. Is she sick?]

Maya Fey. You shouldn't be out this late. Get to safety!

[He hasn't yet looked to see her.]

[Her voice goes even higher when she sees them attacking him, and--]

[Before she even realizes what she's doing, she leaps in front of him. She's got such a weird feeling. The blood is rushing to her head, pounding, and she's almost.... excited?]
