"I'll get you a bloody doctor's note. Don't worry about it." He suppressed the eyeroll, getting out his gameboy to slowly tinker at the text field.

For a few more seconds, Peter knew it was stupid and petulant that having to skip out on on work made him feel like he was being punished, but there it was, he couldn't stop that from happening either.

But then all he felt was ill, everything else fading a bit. "Yeah, okay."

Spike immediately looked sympathetic, shooting off a text to Fred before fixing his gaze back on Peter. "Go get sick if you need to. Won't do any good to hold back." Not that he knew from experience or anything.

"I'm fine, I don't-" But even the act of lying about it made him feel worse, and so he gives in. Avoiding all manner of potential eye contact, he forcibly shoves himself off the couch, giving himself only the span of a second to even try to gain back his balance before he's teetering off to the bathroom

Swallowing, he cursed his sensitive hearing as he moved to sit on the couch in Peter's absence, smoking with a slow deliberacy.

After a number of minutes, Peter nudges his way out of the bathroom, marginally less green but all the more shaky on his feet. He makes the slow trek back over to the couch before finally dropping down on the opposite side and staying quiet, not having the slightest idea what to say but feeling like he should be explaining himself all the same.

All he knew for sure is he wasn't letting Peter out of his sight another minute. The urge to comfort was there, and constant, but he didn't know how Peter would react. Usually he wouldn't hesitate but now, he had to. He wished Peter was a vampire so they could just find him his soul and be over with it. Anything had to be easier than this. "I'll fix this," he said quietly, unaware he said it aloud at all as he takes an unsteady drag, looking down at the carpet.

It took a short while before Peter could even fully process the words, stuck as he was inside the disaster area that was his head. He didn't want to deal with this, not anymore. He'd hardly been able to stand it when going nuclear was what he was worried about, but this was so much more focused, deliberate. At least if he'd exploded, it wouldn't have involved watching himself kill someone. It wouldn't have really been him. Finally, it clicks in that Spike's said something and he digests the words, hesitantly glancing up at the other, wanting to let him fix it more than words could say. "But you didn't do anything."

"You're in no state to run about clearing things up yourself." Obviously. He slowly forges eye contact, firm and non-negotiable. This was out of Peter's control now.

He heard a small trill, glancing over to the counter where he'd dropped off Peter's phone. Not that he thought Peter would go answer it, but he still shot him a look that clearly told him not to as the vampire hesitantly rose to scope it out. He checked who it was from and just barely held back an eyeroll before turning the thing off.

Flinching at the ring, it was habit to go pick it up, but the look from Spike was more than enough to keep him exactly where he was. And Spike was right in the fact that Peter didn't have much of an interest in answering his phone at the moment, but that didn't actually keep him from being curious. Which was right around when it occurred to him that it could be Chuck or any of his friends, as Chuck had rather a lot, and he forcefully shoved himself deeper into the corner, feeling all the more maladjusted.

"Who was it?" Sounding almost as run over by guilt as he looked, Peter swallowed thickly, glancing over at Spike.

"No one we need to worry about right now." Spike looked far away a second before pulling out his NV to reply to Fred. He put it down next to Peter's and leaned on the counter, looking far off a minute. "Ready for that water yet?"

While Peter still wanted to know, he was too worried about the possibility of who it could be to find it in him to press. Not that he thought he'd actually get anywhere by trying either. He kept wanting to tell Spike that he could do it, just to prove that he could, but instead he nodded, looking anywhere else. "Sure."

He nodded back, moving to the fridge to grab a bottle before going back o the couch and handing it over. Slowly, he settled in at the opposite end and let the silence lapse.

Now that he had the water bottle in hand, Peter just stared at it, trying to dial back everything in his thread that was threatening to be near constantly overwhelming. He didn't want to have to fill in the silence, but he wasn't sure he could take it, starting to grit his teeth far too hard.

"I tried to stop," was what he finally came up with, like trying was even good enough, but it didn't sound like an excuse. Mostly he just sounded exasperated, like it should've been easier.

Fred threw everything together after getting Spike's text. She had two satchels full of books and a container or brown sludge in her hands when she knocked on the door. Another bag of crystals, herbs and animal parts were in her hands.

She was trying everything here.

With a slow nod, Spike looked back over at him. "I know." It didn't even try for reassuring, just knowing. "He'd be dead if you hadn't."

The knock doesn't start him, instead shifting to rise off the couch again. "It's Fred." And then he's going to answer it, waving her in with an unnecessarily grandiose gesture.
