"Not just one person. So many others. Families, children, groups of people..." Tenma muttered. It was what everyone had told him; it wasn't his fault, it wasn't his responsibility. Turn yourself in to the police, we can figure something out. In the end, he'd been on the run for two years, and he wasn't any closer.

He knew that Nina felt responsible, but he couldn't put it on her shoulders. At least she could have a life after this was over. He wouldn't. Tenma looked up at Jubilee and gave a small smile.

"If you had a choice, would you have chosen not to?"

I laughed out loud at that xD surgicalshot June 7 2011, 05:32:00 UTC
"Is there any universe that people are just... real, then?" He frowned, trying to figure it out. He could understand it, maybe, but that didn't mean it didn't make the best of sense.

"So this place is...outside the whole...reality spectrum."

You're welcome :D! thelittlestbub June 7 2011, 12:24:13 UTC
Jubilee shrugged. "Real is a matter of perspective." She looked up at him and then took his hand. "Do I feel or look any less real because you know that in one universe I'm a comic book character?"

She smiled slightly. "Not outside, just... a different part of it.

"No, not really," Tenma smiled, giving a small shrug. Now where was that six pack he had brought; glancing around, he found it again, taking another can and leaning back in his seat.

"So a little side track for everything else?"

"Side track is probably as good a word as any." She shrugged. "I'm a bit more blase about it, because, well. I've done this sort of thing before. A friend of mine has done it more often."

Yeah, Kitty and the Elf in Excalibur? Would probably be running the joint by now.

"And, at least, we're not missing anything at home, right?"

"That's what they say," He made a face, though, looking down at his can. "I guess...I mean, I'd like that to be true, because the opposite would be horrible. But what happens...I, well."

He sighed, looking up. "I'm not the best with words," Tenma said apologetically with a smile. "What I mean to say is, what happens if we're here for ten, twenty years? If we make a life here, if we become old and die here, what will that be like, to be thrown back into our old lives? I feel like it wouldn't be safe."

Jubilee finished off her beer and was quiet for a moment.

"When I went home, I didn't remember anything. It's not the first time it's happened to me, and I've begun keeping diaries again, just in case." She kept them in that virtually indestructible trunk of hers, along with the hat. "But what do you do? You go on. You try to deal. Sometimes, you manage. Sometimes, you don't."

She smiled a bit. "When you go through something like this.... there's not set rule for how you deal." Jubilee waved around the room. "This is the way I'm handling it. Pictures of places and people from home. Trying to make a second X-Mansion where I'm welcome." She grabbed another beer. "Not doing too well on the alcoholism front, but that's because I enjoy my gymnastics too much and it'd interfere with that."

"Maybe that's what I should start doing. Keeping a journal. Well, I mean, I keep a journal, but that's not...a journal journal, like a diary, it's different," Tenma took a sip of his beer. He needed to learn when to stop talking. No wonder people never thought he was a surgeon, if he was so clumsy with words.

"You don't seem like an alcoholic. I have a friend, a therapist, he specializes in helping alcoholics...he's a good guy. A really good guy."

"The journal keeping helps. If for no other reason than to freak your friends out back home." She grinned.

Jubilee couldn't help but giggle. "I was joking. I don't drink enough to be considered an alcoholic and if there was even a hint I was going that way, Michael would stop me."

She shrugged. "I've worked with too many to really want to be an alcoholic."

"I'll have to take your word on that one," He grinned, shaking his head. "Not too many friends to freak out back home."

Tenma sighed dramatically. "Well that's a huge relief. I'd really hate to take you down to the group meetings, I hear they're brutal."

"Or you could publish it as a fantasy novel. Someone would buy it." She stretched out, pointing bare toes at the wall, before settling back against the couch. "I can't believe a nice guy like you doesn't have a lot of friends." She cocked her head. "Or are you the workaholic type. Ya know, I have a patented cure for that."

She laughed. "Trust me, after I got done telling them of some of the things in my life? The meetings would be held in a bar."

"I'm not really a writer," Tenma grinned. "And yeah. I'm more the workaholic type. I have some friends...just...not that many."

He laughed. "Everything goes down easier with alcohol."

"Well, we're going to have to fix that. Patented fix for workaholics. Granted, it might end up just annoying you to the point that you will stop working to make me go away, but it works."

She tipped her beer at him with a grin.

"Nah, not everything, just... certain parts of the lives of those from my world. Mine included. Michael made me promise to never tell anyone the full story unless they were drunk first." Well, okay, no he didn't, but it sounded like something he'd say.

"Should I even ask what the fix is?" He took another sip of beer and leaned back against the couch with a grin.

"Are you sure he said that? I don't know if I can really picture him saying that..."

Jubilee winked. "Usually, just me being an annoying brat. Although it has come to me setting paperwork on fire a couple of times. And shorting out a computer a couple of times."

Jubilee shrugged. "It's the way our lives are. Unless people are in it, they just don't... get it, I guess. There are people with wilder lives than mine. Yet, people still don't believe even the tame."

"Yes...can you please not do that?" He laughed. "I really don't want to deal with the extra paperwork that would give me because I lost the original paperwork."

He drank some more beer, mulling that over for a moment. "I guess so. Is anyone that the Core brought in really normal? I mean. Not the powers and abilities thing, but... you don't see Joe the plumber showing up here."
