"This African-American model doing a photo shoot in Africa at a coastal castle which was a holding site for slaves back in the day... and she gets transported back in time and becomes a slave. In fucking tense. There is a scene where she is being dragged off to be branded where she is screaming, "I'm an American! I'm an American!" and she is not being heard that was very scary."
This part confused me to no end:
"and she gets transported back in time and becomes a slave."
Can you clarify?
She didn't really get transported back in time?!? Was this a documentary or fiction?

It's a fiction. It IS confusing. She is wandering the castle and follows what looks like a guided tour... but she is behind them. Suddenly, the room goes dark and torches appear. Then, she sees shackled slaves and freaks out. She runs for the door and when she opens it, she runs into the arms of white men who drag her back in, rip off her clothes and brand her. There is a time shift and suddenly she is a house slave on a plantation and the bulk of the story occurs on the plantation. At the end of the movie, she is running away from the plantation and time shifts again and she runs naked back into the castle courtyard where an African woman holds her and dresses her. It's very intense and surreal.
