ATTN: Gareth and Gawain (obviously) -- open to anyone else, as well

Aug 11, 2007 00:59

"Gawain!"

Agravaine is striding through the forest in the direction of the Orkney cottage, trampling twigs and little woodland creatures underfoot. Er, so to speak.

"Gawain, dammit--! Gareth!" He's not exactly subtle when he's angry.

Well, that's distressing.

Elaine has managed to mostly avoid loud, angry people since she got here. Now she freezes on the side path that leads to Percy's house, expressionless and still, with the empty basket still in her hand.

Agravain kicks at the pine needles as he walks -- a most unwise move, as his foot connects with a rock that happened to be buried beneath some of the needles. "Ow--! Godforsaken country, Godforsaken forest, God bloody damn everything--" Which is when he notices Elaine.

"What the hell are you looking at?!"

"I'm sorry, sir." Swift as reflex, soft and subdued.

"Don't need to be sorry, just -- have you seen anyone down this path today?"

Once he reaches the cottage, Gareth, bewildered, comes from around the side. "What?"

"What? What! What, he says, just like it's nothing at all," sneers Agravain, most unreasonably. "Mordred's gone and got himself killed, you idiot."

"--what?" There is no way to describe the word but as a squeak.

"Smart answer. We have to do something."

"I'm in the lean to," Gawain calls, "Settle down, Agravain."

Agravain slams round the corner to glare at Gawain. Without preamble, "Mordred's dead."

"I'm well aware of that," Gawain says, in a disturbingly calm voice, "Thank you, brother."

He's sorting through a collection of sharp metal things, carefully, precisely, taking his time about it.

Agravain glances down at the murderous implements. "...who killed him?"

Here's a man-- no, a boy, just a boy-- with a sword, his father's mail, and an air of quiet intensity.

Agravain stops short, staring at his nephew. "You heard?" he asks roughly, looking just a little uncomfortable -- it isn't an easy thing, to tell a man his father's been murdered, and it's a harder thing to tell a boy, and this boy, around whose silent intensity Agravain has never been able to relax.

"I have heard." Simple, low.

"And what are you doing about it?" Agravain asks curtly. "Is the one who killed him dead himself yet?"

And, um, someone else is upset.

"I understand you're short one vengeful brother," Sagramore says. His sword is ever-present, though usually there's a laughter in his eyes. There's no laughter now.

Agravain stops short, eyeing Sagramore distastefully. "Has everyone heard before me?"

"He's lying on the floor in the middle of the place. It's fairly obvious."

"Not all of us spend every moment hanging around uselessly."
