this entire discussion is making me so happy - i love it when people are made to think critically about a community that they willingly take part in, even if their participation is just for the lulz and good times. scrolling text aside, your meta is better than most i've seen on the subject. <3!

I love it when people are joining me on the boat, so to speak, because I think if you do critical analysis or read and think critically, if you do this critical work in a really strong, centered, non-accusatory way, it can actually make you love what you're analyzing even more. I mean, I do fandom for the lulz; I wrote all this, debated a bunch of stuff, and then went and read some Bob/Pete d/s porn by neery. The lulz continue apace!

(You've got to love the scrolling text - you know that's how I know I've arrived.)

Thanks, anyway, is what I mean. Most of this just reminded me that both in fandom and in academia I've got to maintain perspective.
