Oh my. That's very brave of you. I love insects, of course, but as for eating them.... oh so much chitin (the polysaccharide that makes up the shell). Not much meat. Sort of like eating tiny lobsters in their shells. Oooohhh... I mean, uh, good luck. :o)

Hmmm maybe it depends on the insect? The first website contains a bunch of reasons why they are really healthy, and environmentally/economically a great idea. :-) I'm open. But first, cover them with chocolate please.

Bug-Eating Party - Game!

http://www.bugeatingparty.com/

Frank, you know how we've been talking about games?

You have more crazy friends than I do. If you throw this party, I'll come! Should be totally fun. The bugs are all dried/salted/whatever prepared tastily. :-)

Yes, I'm serious... aw, please?

A few years ago the kids and I went to a bug museum on a homeschool field trip. They sold flavored bugs to eat, but the kids and I passed :)

Did any of the children try it?

We have a book Called "Man Eating Bugs" that's all about just that very thing! (Get it? Not "Man-eating Bugs," but "Man Eating Bugs.") It's a pretty cool book. We haven't tried any of them ourselves.

Hey, Lori, wouldn't this be the ideal time to tell us all again about that scorpion hanging out of your mouth? I forget the story, but I'd love to hear it again, esp. since it involves someone else eating an arthropod.

Oh, yeah. I *have* eaten a (sorta) bug, haven't I?

Not much to tell, though. During one of our trips to China, we had a banquet for Sifu at Shaolin Village (which no longer exists, btw) and one of the dishes was a big plate of french-fried scorpions. Pretty crunchy, not so tasty (not bad, just not much taste at all).

They're supposed to be medicinal, like so many icky things in Chinese cuisine.

That's about it.

Yes that definitely counts as a "bug" for eating's sake. Eeeks that picture looks... uncomfortable! But now that I know it was dead & fried, I think I could do it. Eat it, I mean.

Shaolin Village. Like Shaolingrrl. Like the warrior you want to be. I still want to know more. Tell me more, please! Or, have you written a story about it I can read?
