We have a book Called "Man Eating Bugs" that's all about just that very thing! (Get it? Not "Man-eating Bugs," but "Man Eating Bugs.") It's a pretty cool book. We haven't tried any of them ourselves.

Hey, Lori, wouldn't this be the ideal time to tell us all again about that scorpion hanging out of your mouth? I forget the story, but I'd love to hear it again, esp. since it involves someone else eating an arthropod.

Oh, yeah. I *have* eaten a (sorta) bug, haven't I?

Not much to tell, though. During one of our trips to China, we had a banquet for Sifu at Shaolin Village (which no longer exists, btw) and one of the dishes was a big plate of french-fried scorpions. Pretty crunchy, not so tasty (not bad, just not much taste at all).

They're supposed to be medicinal, like so many icky things in Chinese cuisine.

That's about it.

Yes that definitely counts as a "bug" for eating's sake. Eeeks that picture looks... uncomfortable! But now that I know it was dead & fried, I think I could do it. Eat it, I mean.

Shaolin Village. Like Shaolingrrl. Like the warrior you want to be. I still want to know more. Tell me more, please! Or, have you written a story about it I can read?

Ah, yeah, that reminds me of "The Chinese Grocery Store Game," in which players invade a Chinese grocery store and then look for the weirdest, grossest thing they can find. (Because, well - I say as a Chinese person - well, Chinese people have a billion mouths to feed, so they'll pretty much eat anything, and the ickier things are called "delicacies" to make them palatable. One winner in The Chinese Grocery Store Game was Snake Head Chunks (frozen). Sometimes you see weird organs, like Pig Skin (with the snout right on top so you know you're not being tricked into buying, say, cow skin or lamb skin) or tripe or calf brains.... but another winner (I'm not making this up) was mysterious animal parts, neatly wrapped in plastic on one of those styrofoam tray. Apparently not even the butchers knew what organs they were, because they were labeled just: Pork. Dired spicy cuttlefish is also a favorite. And yet another winner was this mysterious packet, all in Chinese, like a big flat hot chocolate envelope, and it had pictures of ( ... )

Well, in the mundane, I am just like you. I love the sweet & sour stuffs!

But in the exciting geeky world where you can do and be whatever/whomever you want, I would really really like to try some of these delicacies. But, just one by one. Not all at once and not a whole bunch at a time.

I guess I'm just not quite sure what you mean by "more". What do you want to know?

Oh, Just the Important Stuff. What is a Shaolin Girl? How would I know one if I met one?

Lori, did you check out that "Bug Eating Game" posted in one of these posts?

I've suggested to Frank that he get it someday and throw a party... would you come? (I told him I thought you would; I hope I'm right.)
