Fucking hell, California. This is making fucking IOWA seem like a better deal - the Writer's Workshop, a semi-decent school system to work in, and, oh yeah, SAME-SEX MARRIAGE. I am SO incredibly angry.

Iowa is sounding considerably better. My dad keeps telling me about the crumbling CA economy every time I talk to him.

I'm glad that my current state is saner than CA. Although I really wish CA would catch up.

Crumbling CA economy is indeed crumbling. The sheer number of posts about layoffs in California in the teaching comms earlier this spring were horrifying.

I'm glad that your state is saner too! As for me, well, Louisiana isn't progressive, but at least it doesn't PRETEND to be. And as long as we have teaching shortages here, I'll have a job. (With no help from our governor, who maintains that lower-than-nat'l-average teaching salaries aren't the reason new teachers are leaving the state. O RLY?)
