I'm really disappointed in California (though not, I have to say, anyone I actually *know* in California, because they all did the right thing and voted no). And also Florida, with the vote to do away with civil unions completely. I guess if you're gonna take away rights, you might as well be "fair" and take away everyone's, what the fuck.
I'm taking heart in the fact that all of the marriages performed since the original decision will remain legal, as they rightfully should. And that it's already going to court.
I've had people ask me why I care so much when it's not my state, not even my country, and I'm just like, how can someone being denied something that ought to be a fundamental human right not matter, whether they're your next-door neighbour or half a world away?
I hope that, eventually, more of America will see that no, really, those of us in countries that have taken this step are doing just fine, that gay marriage being legal doesn't mean churches are forced to do anything they don't want to do. For a lot of people, it

Yeah, Florida's on my list of "places I can unfortunately never live." Gay adoption, also illegal there, has been for ages and ages. I guess throwing in a marriage and civil union ban goes with it. At least they haven't had a sodomy law for five whole years, right?
I'm glad it's going to court and that this time people get to stay married, but still... argh.
I know eventually people are going to shape up, realize that queer people are people too, and so on. But I wish it could be now, because I'm already tired of waiting for everyone to get with it.
